Ex 2: Complete the text with the Present Simple verbs below, before comparing in pairs.

Hi, I’m Kevin. I’m very romantic. My wife and I got married on Valentine’s day, so it is an extra
special day for us. Every Valentine’s morning, I 1. __________ breakfast for my wife and give her a
homemade Valentine’s card and a red rose. I usually 2. __________ hearts or Cupid on the card.
I am not a very good artist, but the pictures make my wife smile. In the afternoon, I 3. ________

Lesson: Valentine’s Day Lesson Level: A0/A1- Time: 25 minutes +

Preparation:
- Print handouts or display them for online lessons.
- Ideally, students should be familiar with the Present Simple before doing this lesson.

Teaching Method:
Step 1:
- Students complete exercise 1, matching the vocabulary to the pictures and comparing in pairs. You may
want to tell them that the American English spelling of jewellery = jewelry
- Go through the answers and drill correct pronunciation.
Step 2:
- Students complete the text in exercise 2 with the missing verbs.
- You may need to pre-teach romantic, wife, homemade, artist, smile, afternoon, evening, meal, bill, of
course, delicious, dessert, and lucky before they begin and/or allow them to use a dictionary.
- Go through the answers by asking the students to read the text, in turn, focusing on use and
pronunciation.
