WHAT ARE YOU DOING? (Present Progressive)

Present Progressive, is when we express actions that are happening at the moment, we
use verb to be (present tense) and the verb with (ing) added, (gerund)

I am working now Are you working now? Yes, I am / No, I am not


She is playing volleyball Is she playing volleyball? Yes, she is / No, she is not
They are swimming in the river Are they swimming in the river? Yes, they are

RULES TO ADD ING TO THE VERBS

1. When the verb ends in ¨e¨ We change ¨e¨ to ¨ing¨

2. When the verb ends in ¨ie¨ We change ¨e ¨to ¨y¨and we add ¨ing¨
Lie Die Lying Dying

3. When the verb is a syllable, the We dupplicate the last consonant and
The ending is consonant , vowel add ing

Swim Stop Swimming Stopping

4. When the verb is more than 2 We dupplicate the last consonant and add
Syllables and the ending is ¨ing¨
Consonant, vowel, consonant,
C + V +C and the Last syllable
has greater voice strength

5. All others, that do not comply We add ¨ing ¨
