Hamilton :Effet sur les gens, mélange musiques, interet du public,

l’importance historique, comparer le vrai hamilton du faux

Hamilton was a huge hit upon its release in 2015, close to everyone. However, the story of
Alexander Hamilton, even if he is one of the founding fathers of America, is not well known
and therefore the play was not supposed to attract so many people. This musical seduced
crowds of teenagers who came to watch it, because Hamilton is portrayed as a brilliant,
passionate, funny and resilient character. The use of the musical genres of rap and hip-hop
convinced audiences from all over the world to come and see Hamilton's compelling story.
And yet another reason for its success: the inclusion of actors of all backgrounds and skin
colors to represent Europeans. In fact, there are African American, Asian, white and Latino
actors.
The casting was welcomed by the critics of the time, as some plays were beginning to be
accused of not being representative enough. While the play has not yet been performed, the
expectations are immense: more than fifty-five million.
On top of that, thanks to an excellent marketing strategy, the show will keep its fame for
many years, and still today. The prices were exorbitant, up to five hundred and fifty dollars
per ticket, but to keep the success going, the Hamilton production created lotteries to allow
less fortunate people to buy a ticket for only ten dollars, or to benefit from the one-for-one
discount. The odds of winning tickets are low, but they still increase the media coverage of
the event. The actors and the production also master the social networks and do not
hesitate to interact with the public
The numbers behind this success:
- Disney + paid $75 million to have Hamilton on its platform.
- 2.5 million viewers of this play.
As we said before, the songs are often rap or hip-hop, and have references to contemporary
music, as a nod to modern artists. For example: In Alexander Hamilton, the opening track,
you can hear "What's your name?", an interjection often used by Snoop Dogg or Rihanna in
their songs.
The chorus repeating "New York" is a reference to Empire State of Mind by Jay-Z and Alicia
Keys. The debates between the founding fathers are reminiscent of Eminem's rap battles.
Why did they make these anachronistic choices?
Because many American rappers were born into poverty, and it was their ambition and their
writing that made them known and important in the world: just like Alexander Hamilton.
