Parts of Speech activity with your students:

1. Write a sentence on the board that includes all the eight parts of speech. For example, “Danny crossed the
busy street and he enthusiastically yelled, ‘Hey!’ to his friend.”
2. Have your students identify which parts of speech each of the words are.
3. After that, ask one student to choose a word in the sentence. Have them identify the part of speech. And
then, have them replace that word with another word in the same part of speech. So if they choose, “busy,”
they might replace it with “quiet.” Continue this activity until the sentence is completely different.

Before practicing this session, you may listen and enjoy this RAP song.
