What makes up a story? Have you thought about it? Here is an exercise to help you get some
idea.

1. What is a “setting?” What is the setting of the story “Cinderella”?


The story setting is when and where the story takes place.

The characters are the people, animals, or other creatures in the story.

3. What is a “sequence,” or “plot”?
Plot is the sequence of connected events that make up a narrative in a story.

1.The prince held a ball and invited young women to attend.


2.Stepmother made Cinderella do many chores, so she couldn't go the ball.
3.Fairy godmother appeared and helped Cinderella go to the ball.
4.Cinderella accidentally dropped her slipper.
5.The prince found Cinderella and they got married.
4. What is a “conflict”? What is the major conflict in the story “Cinderella”?
Conflict is when there's a fight or problem between different things in a story.

Cinderella's stepmother gave her a lot of chores, leaving with no time to make
the dress she needed to wear to the ball.
5. What is a “climax”? What is the climax in the story “Cinderella”?
The climax is the most exciting part of a story, where everything comes to a peak.

The climax of the story is when Cinderella accidentally leaves behind her slipper
while fleeing, and the slipper is discovered by the prince.
6. What is a “resolution”? What is the resolution in the story “Cinderella”?
The resolution is the end of the story.

The fairy godmother showed up and helped Cinderella by turning a pumpkin into a
carriage and making a dress, so Cinderella could go to the ball.
