English as a Hypercentral Language

Abstract
The objective of this paper is to shed the light on the actual
status of English as a hypercentral language. It tends to focus
on the main parameters that constitute relevant elements in the
globality of English. Five major predictors affecting language
spread ave considered here: historical fects, numerical or
demographic predictions, Economic and _ political
considerations and lastly cultural implications. All these
factors have directly sought individuals to acquire it as a
linguistic power because it is perceived to be economically
and socially valuable. Prior to describing these parameters,
some genera considerations about the theory of language
system are provided, in compliance with this, the concept of a
hypercentral language is also discussed. So the concern here
is to give a panoramic view on the standing of English on the
language constellation.

With the upshot devel opment of information technologies and
the paradigm of time and space restraint, there is an
undeniable fact thet more and more people from different
countries end across linguistic barriers are communicating and
exchanging ideas with each other using one unique language
that is English. The language has spread both numerically and
geographically and within various international networks, it is

Documenting the way in which English has acquired an
intermediary global status' is very important to many English
learners. This paper tends to profile the main parameters
(historical facts, numerical or demographic predictions, Economic
and political considerations as well es cultural implications) that
have contributed in the apogee of English to be considered as.
a hypercentral language. A concept that has been developed
and discussed by De Swam (2001, 2013) in his theory of
world language system to show how far English has acquired
the nucleus in languages collection. In the following sections
of this paper, we are going firstly to present an overall
interpretation of De Swaen theory with a perticular focus on
the position of English language among other languages, and
