Nodal Analysis
Use Nodal analysis to determine the value of
current i in the network.
Solution:
We will apply KCL to the two nodes 1 and 2.
Equating the incoming currents at node 1 to the outgoing
currents, we have,

As seen, i = V1/8,
Hence, the above equation becomes
V1 −V2 V1 V1
+ 8 + 3 8 =6
4
2V −2V2+V1+3V1
or, 1 8
=6
6V −2V
or, 1 8 2=6
2(3V1−V2)
or, =6
8
3V1−V2
or, =6
4
Or, 3V1-V2=24………..(i)
Solution:
Similarly, applying KCL to node No. 2, we get
V1 −V2 V2
+ 3𝑖= 6
4
V −V V V
or, 1 4 2 + 3 81= 62
2V −2V +3V1 V2
or, 1 8 2 = 6
5V1 −2V2 V2
or, = 6
8
5V1 −2V2 V2
or, 4
= 3
Or, 15V1-6V2 =4 V2
Or, 15V1- 6V2 -4V2=0
Or, 15V1- 10V2=0
Or, 5(3V1- 2V2)=0
Or, 3V1- 2V2=0…….(ii)
Solution:
3V1-V2=24………..(i)
3V1- 2V2=0…….(ii)
V2=24
From (i), we get
3V1-24=24
Or, 3V1=24+24
Or, 3V1=48
Or, V1=16

Hence,
V1
𝑖=
8
16
Or, 𝑖 = 8
Or, i=2 A (ans)
