In-Building vRAN Solution
The integration of the vBS with a digital Distributed Antenna System (DAS) creates a powerful
end-to-end coverage and capacity solution for in-building Radio Access Networks (RAN). This
integrated solution decreases the amount of proprietary hardware needed, improves coverage, cell-
edge throughput and spectral efficiency, and supports incremental addition of resources without
having to rip-and-replace elements.

Reduced Footprint: Spectrum and Network Efficiency:

• Elimination of radio attenuators • Dynamic configuration and allocation of
• Centralized resources in data centers resources
• Direct interoperability via open interface • Auto-scale up/down: No more over
between vBS and DAS provisioning to meet distributed peak
• Lower TCO: Less equipment, consuming less demand
power in communication rooms • Auto-scale in /out: Capacity allocation within
and between venues or zones based on users
traffic
Low Latency / Local Applications:
• Compatible with Advanced spectrum
• Multi-vendor Open Mobile Edge Cloud
efficiency features such as CoMP
(OMEC)
• For Carrier or Enterprise applications with
local breakout (security, video conference) Future Proof:
• 5G-Ready, air interface agnostic modular
platform

Enabling Open Mobile Edge Clouds

The rise of new applications such as Virtual Reality (VR), autonomous cars, smart stadiums, and cloud
robotics, impose demanding requirements on networks, including ultra-low latency and localized
processing. It also requires functions of the mobile core network to move closer to the user.
The vBS architecture enables an ultra-low latency Open Mobile Edge Cloud with direct access to real-
time radio network information, capable of reducing network bandwidth consumption, allowing service
customization and enhancing the mobile broadband experience.

vRAN Solution for Macro Networks

The vBS can support any baseband partitioning architecture depending on the carrier’s needs:
1. Open Mobile Edge Cloud at Central Office with dark fibers to the Cell Sites
2. Hybrid Open Mobile Edge Cloud for real-time processing and Centralized Cloud for none-real-time
functions
a. This topology allows Carriers to centralize none-real-time functions at first, when no dark fiber is
available and run applications at the central office location (diagram 1).
b. Carriers can leverage the Open Mobile Edge Cloud to run all functions and applications at the
network edge, which is critical for low-latency applications. Enterprises will benefit from a local
network breakout, allowing certain types of information to stay locally without traveling outside
of the Enterprise gateway (diagram 2).
c. The Open Mobile Edge Cloud can serve a local cell site and any adjacent cell site that is
connected with fibers, forming a super-cell (diagram 2).
