MEASUREMENT
Objective
1. To learn how experimental data changes and learn to evaluate results with
uncertainty.
2. To understand experimental error, accuracy and precision.

Theory and Analysis

Precision and accuracy are two ways that scientists think about error. Accuracy
refers to how close a measurement is to the true or accepted value. Precision refers
to how close measurements of the same item are to each other. Precision is
independent of accuracy.
Accuracy and precision are both forms of measurement that define how close
you are to hitting a target or achieving a goal. Accuracy evaluates how close you are
to the true value of the measurement, while precision shows how close the measured
values are to one another.

Materials
• Ruler
• Tape measure
• Pull push rule
• Meter stick
• Measuring wheel
• Digital Thermometer, glass thermometer

Procedure
1. Choose an object (window, blackboard, book, door, and etc.) inside the classroom
that can be measured using different measuring tools.
2. Select an appropriate measuring tool to measure those objects.
3. Record all the data gathered.
4. Lastly, observe the importance of using appropriate tools in measuring different
objects.

Questions

1. What is the percentage error of the measured value?

2. Describe the measured value of the result in terms of accuracy and precision.

3. What is the importance of using the right measuring tool?
