Choose whether to write your assignment based on option A and option B topic. The articles
and cases provided are all available on Univen Library Legal Data Base.
Option A
Read the following articles, and put together your reading reaction on the thoughts and arguments
advanced by the authors in question. If you do not know how to write a reading reaction, feel
free to google how to write one. In the end, provide your own opinion on whether the codification
of customary law is an effective way of preserving and developing customary law or not.

Assessment Criteria
What is a ‘reading reaction’ ? It is a short critical response to a reading or set of readings. There
are four components to a reading reaction: summary, analysis, synthesis, and personal
engagement. The weighting given to each component should be the following:
Summary of the read text = 10%
analysis = 40%
synthesis= 20%
engagement = 20%
conclusion = 10%

Option B
Read the following cases, identify the legal issues and make a comparative analysis on the
reasoning behind the decisions made by the court on both matters. Your analysis must include
a combined summary of the facts of both cases from the court aquo and the legal issue(s) on
appeal. You must compare the court’s analysis and rational, on the legal issues and give your
opinion on the decision. In the end, provide a consolidated opinion on the issue of transfer of
the bride as a requirement for a customary marriage.
