Archimandrite is the highest honorary ecclesiastical rank conferred on monks,

usually for special spiritual and/or administrative merits. The rank of


archimandrite is immediately superior to that of protosinghel, but inferior to the
rank of bishop. The archimandrite can be abbot of a monastery or serve under a
bishop. In the tradition of the Russian Orthodox Church, archimandrites have the
right to wear miter.
