Chapter 5 – VEHICLE'S OPERATION
INTRODUCTION
The purpose of this chapter is to guide the operator step by step to get familiar with the
vehicle and to teach him how to operate it efficiently and safety.
Before starting the engine, sit on the driver’s seat and look at the controls and at their
positions.
Use the manual to identify switches, indicators, buttons, levers and pedals.
The operator must always be aware of what is happening inside and outside the cab.
Working in safety conditions must be the main aim of all operating steps.
When you are sure to be familiar with all positions and functions of controls, switches and
indicators, practise them.
While using the vehicle, observe how the vehicle and the controls work.
Finally, do not quicken the practice of the vehicle and make sure you have deeply learned
the contents of this chapter "VEHICLE'S OPERATION".
Remember:
PAY ATTENTION
BE CAREFUL
WORK SAFELY
WARNING:
Before use the Lift Truck, carefully read the chapter 2 "SAFETY”.

Level checks
- Fuel level;
- Engine oil level;
- Coolant level;
- Hydraulic oil level;
- Window washer fluid level.
Cleanness checks S
- Clean the cab windows, lights and the rear view
mirrors;
- Make sure that steps, handrails, rails and assist
straps (on the left and right side) are clean and
dry;
- Clogging of the air cleaner of the engine.
NOTE: Cleanness checks should be made now
and then during the day; to this purpose, to
stop the vehicle and perform these checks.
Damage checks
clean and wipe dry rails,
- Check the vehicle for damaged or missing parts;
handrails and assist straps
- Check the windows for damages; glass splinters
may blind;
clean all cab
- Make sure that there are no oil, fuel or coolant
windows
leaks under the vehicle; clean the
- Check the condition of the tyres: rearview

WARNING:
The burst of a tyre may cause even mortal
injury, so never use a vehicle whose tyres are
damaged, incorrectly inflated or excessively
worn.
Check the tyre pressure; refer to section
"Wheel change" in chapter 6 MAINTENANCE,
for a safe inflating procedure; clean and wipe dry
Check the tyres for cuts. Also check for nails or the assist straps
fractions of glass or stones embedded in the
tyres; clean and wipe dry
clean all lights
Do not use a vehicle with damaged tyres. the steps
Further checks
- Check that the tank caps are properly tightened;
- Make sure that the cab, the mast and any attachment are properly fastened;
- Check all controls and instruments of the vehicle for proper function;
- Check that the service and parking brake are in good working order.

ENGINE
CAUTION: In any case, please refer to the instruction manual of the installed engine.
WARNING: Before starting the engine in a closed area, make sure that there is adequate
ventilation. Exhaust fumes are poisonous.
Engine start
- Insert the ignition key into the main switch and turn it R
clockwise to 1 "ON";
- Turn again the ignition key to 3 "starter" and release 0
it immediately after engine start, WITHOUT pressing parking 4 1 ON
the accelerator pedal.
If you press the accelerator pedal, black exhaust

fumes at the engine start can be considered as Main switch
normal; 3 starter
NOTE:
Verify how the ignition lock key works, since in
some models the key needs to be pushed in to
be turned to 3.
- after engine start, with the pressure gauge "33"
check that the engine oil pressure is within
specification (3,5 - 4 bar). Digital

CAUTION:
If the engine does not start quickly, do not operate
the starter longer than 30 sec., otherwise battery
discharge or starter motor damage could occur. "33" engine oil manometer
Immediately after engine start, move the vehicle
slowly in order to let the engine run at low speed and
reach gradually its operating temperature.

- A continuous and constant oil flow in the whole
lubrication system;
- The respect of the law pollution limits; Analog meter
board
- The control of consumption.

ENGINE (continuation)
Pre-heater system
To start the engine, use the normal procedure as
previously described, considering that the engine parking 4
0 1 ON
is equipped with a pre-heater system to facilitate
the engine start at low temperatures. 2
If necessary, the electronic control unit of the 3 starter
engine adjusts the start time and the duration of
the engine pre-heating accordingly to the external
temperature. Main switch
NOTE:
We recommend waiting some seconds before
turning the ignition key from 1 "ON" to 3 "starter"
in the main switch.
Engine stop
Stop the engine as follows: Main switch
- Let the engine idle for some minutes to achieve a Front right
thermal balance and ensure the lubrication of control panel
pistons, cylinders, liners, bearings and
turbocharger parts;
- Turn the key in the main switch to 0 and pull it
out.
NOTE:
DO NOT use the emergency engine cut-off
switch for normal engine switching-off.

NOTE:
- The occurrence of an alarm is signalled not only by Display
the lighting of the warning lights, but also by the
sound of the buzzer.
- In the version without Display, the alarm warning
lights are located on the front right control panel
(refer to Chapter 3).
- If it is absolute necessary to move the vehicle, do
this with extreme caution.
CAUTION:
- The reverse gear can be selected only with
stationary vehicle and with the engine running at
low rpm;

Autoshift transmission
The shift automation is managed by an electronic
system (by the "ZF" control unit located , located
inside the cab behind the driver seat). This system
considerably reduces the work required from the
driver and allows optimum gear engagement under all
driving conditions of the vehicle. Furthermore it
includes the reverse lock.

NOTE:
- Before towing, disconnect the propeller shaft
between the gearbox and the driving axle on the
flange side of the driving axle.
Above instructions must be absolutely
respected, otherwise, the gearbox and the torque towing hook G
converter would be seriously damaged.
WARNING:
- To tow a faulty vehicle we recommend using a rigid
tow bar;
- Before towing, make sure that the vehicle is not
braked;
- The lift truck must be towed without load.
WARNING:
If the lift truck has to be lifted, operate very
carefully and safely, using suitable sling chains
and cranes; bystanders must keep clear of the
area covered by the vehicle during the removal.
Sling the vehicle with chains or similar equipment using the front hooking brackets and the rear towing
hooks, paying attention not do damage any of its parts.
Furthermore, before the transport verify that all movable parts of the lift truck are properly fixed.
WARNING: Apply the parking brake and secure the wheels with chocks or similar devices.
The clearance gauge exceeds the limits fixed for International Transports. Therefore specific permissions for
special transports from the appropriate authorities must be provided.

CAUTION:
If the lifting is performed with 2 cranes, use combined manoeuvres; the
operators must be in condition to see each other, remaining at a safe distance.
Use suitable chains, and hook them only at the lifting points (see the relevant section
"Vehicle lifting" in this chapter):
