Chapter 5 – VEHICLE'S OPERATION

INTRODUCTION

The purpose of this chapter is to guide the operator step by step to get familiar with the
vehicle and to teach him how to operate it efficiently and safety.

Carefully read the whole chapter "VEHICLE'S OPERATION".

Before starting the engine, sit on the driver’s seat and look at the controls and at their
positions.

Use the manual to identify switches, indicators, buttons, levers and pedals.

The operator must always be aware of what is happening inside and outside the cab.

Working in safety conditions must be the main aim of all operating steps.

When you are sure to be familiar with all positions and functions of controls, switches and
indicators, practise them.

Drive the vehicle in a clear area, without persons.

While using the vehicle, observe how the vehicle and the controls work.

Finally, do not quicken the practice of the vehicle and make sure you have deeply learned
the contents of this chapter "VEHICLE'S OPERATION".

Work calmly, safely and efficiently.

Remember:
PAY ATTENTION
BE CAREFUL
WORK SAFELY

WARNING:
Before use the Lift Truck, carefully read the chapter 2 "SAFETY”.

FIRST OPERATION HOURS – BREAK-IN

For new vehicles, we recommend a short break-in period of at least 200 operating hours.

Observe following precautions during the brake-in time:

1) Never run the engine at max. speed;

2) After each start, allow the engine to warm-up slowly,

avoiding reaching immediately too high speeds;

3) Check the oil level frequently.

Autoshift transmission
The shift automation is managed by an electronic
system (by the "ZF" control unit located , located
inside the cab behind the driver seat). This system
considerably reduces the work required from the
driver and allows optimum gear engagement under all
driving conditions of the vehicle. Furthermore it
includes the reverse lock.

NOTE: To activate the autoshift transmission, shift

the gearbox selector lever into the highest
gear, the system will optimise the
engagement of the different gears.

Operation

11
Activating the parking brake, the tangential force is
transmitted, in accordance with the rotation direction,
to one of the guide pins (2) bolted to the caliper (1). 1
Two identical brake pad plates (3-4) turn freely on the
guide pins.
The clamping force generated by the inner springs (5)
moves the piston (6) together with the adjusting screw
(7), the thrust pin (8) and the brake pad (3) towards
the brake disk.
4 3 7
When the brake pad (3) contacts the brake disk, the
reaction force on the thrust ring (9) let the caliper and 10 6
1 4 3 9
the brake pad (4) slide on the guide pins (2) towards
the brake disk until a full contact is created and the
applied pressure is stabilised. 2
The brake is released by the pressure of the brake
fluid in the piston chamber (10) that pushes outside
the piston (6). The piston overcomes the force of the
inner springs (5) until it is stopped by the thrust ring
(9).
The wear of the brake pads and of the disk material
reduces the clamping force.
Adjust the brake slack turning clockwise the adjusting
screw (7) that pushes the pin (8) and the brake pad
(3) towards the brake disk, compensating this way the
thickness reduction of brake pads and disk.

Brake slack adjustment

After the first installation, or in case of replacement due to the wear of the brake pads or of the disk material,
adjust the brake slack as follows:
1. Loosen the lock nut (11) of the adjusting screw (7), apply the hydraulic pressure and turn clockwise the
adjusting screw (7) until the brake pads (3-4) contact the brake disk.
2. Hold the lock nut (11) and turn. the fastening screw (7) in or out.
3. Lock the fastening screw (7) with the lock nut (11).

Emergency brake release

In absence of hydraulic pressure, it is possible to release the brake loosing the lock nut (11) and turning the
adjusting screw (7) counterclockwise until the brake is released.
Go on turning the adjusting screw (7) counterclockwise until the brake feels free
.

CAUTION: After this emergency step, the vehicle can only be towed, it must not
absolutely be driven.

NOTE:
- For adjustments after brake repairs please contact the Service
Department of C.V.S.

The pressurised brake fluid pushes the piston (4) that holds the springs (3) compressed, so that the vehicle
is not braked.
When the brake fluid is allowed to flow out of the piston chamber, the action of the springs applies the brake.

Emergency brake release

In absence of hydraulic pressure, it is possible to release the brake screwing in the nut (1) with left-handed
thread counterclockwise until it contacts the cover (2).
Go on turning the nut (1) counterclockwise until the brake feels free.

CAUTION: After this emergency step, the vehicle can only be towed, it must not

Use of the “INCHING” pedal

The INCHING function ("In" pedal) is a device
permitting to reduce the driving speed without
changing the engine speed.
This way the driver can move the vehicle slowly,
maintaining at the same time all the power which is
necessary for other maneuvers (lifting / mast tilting,
fork shifting, steering, etc.).
It is especially useful for stacking and load unit
clamping.

NOTE:
Increasing the pressure on the pedal (stroke
decreasing), the speed of the vehicle is reduced until In
the service brakes are activated. "Inching" pedal
Releasing the pedal, the braking action is stopped and
the vehicle moves normally.

Safety system override controls

The lift truck is equipped with safety devices
protecting both the driver and the vehicle from any
improper and dangerous handling which could cause
injury to the driver or bystanders and damages to the
vehicle.
Only if absolutely necessary, the safety devices can
be deactivated with non-locking override key switches
located on the side right control panel.

Steering

Emergency steering pump (if fitted)

The vehicle may be equipped with an emergency
steering pump (PE) [located into the right side box of
the vehicle], which is actuated automatically when the
pressure in the steering system falls or is missing.

Function
The pump starts automatically when the vehicle is in
motion and the main steering pump has a fault (or the
engine stops).
The vehicle is considered in motion if the speed is
higher than approx. 0.7 km/h (70 rpm of the propeller right side box
shaft).
A pressure switch located on the valve block delivery
remote
detects the pump failure.

NOTE:
The activation of the emergency pump is signalled by
the lighting of the red warning light in the alarm field of
the Display or of the analog meter. PE

CAUTION: Digital instruments display

The emergency pump is not designed to replace
the main steering pump; therefore, after its
activation (caused by a failure in the steering
system), use it EXCLUSIVELY to move the vehicle
and to allow for the failure to be searched and
repaired.

NOTE:
If this condition occurs, we recommend
contacting the qualified C.V.S. technicians or an

Emergency mast lowering

If the mast, with or without a load, cannot be lowered,
it can be lowered in EMERGENCY as follows:
remove the front footboard
WARNING: P
Before lowering the mast, make sure
that no persons stay under or near the
mast.
If possible, perform this step on a
clear and safe area.

1 - Switch-off the engine and apply the parking

brake;
2 - Remove the front protection footboard (P), (snap
fitted, without fastening screws);
3 - Open the cock (R) inside the front cross member
of the chassis, in the left upper side.

Now the mast will come down slowly, draining the oil
in the tank of the lift truck.

Towing the vehicle Rear view

To tow the vehicle, use the towing hook (G) available

to this purpose. The towing speed must be very low
and the distance to be travelled must be minimal (only
to park the vehicle and to allow for the failure to be
searched and repaired).

NOTE:
- Before towing, disconnect the propeller shaft
between the gearbox and the driving axle on the
flange side of the driving axle.
Above instructions must be absolutely
respected, otherwise, the gearbox and the torque towing hook G
converter would be seriously damaged.

WARNING:
- To tow a faulty vehicle we recommend using a rigid
tow bar;
- Before towing, make sure that the vehicle is not
braked;
- The lift truck must be towed without load.

In case of towing of a faulty lift truck, we recommend:

- To joint a rigid towing bar to the towing hook (G);
- To make sure that the towed vehicle is not braked;
- Make sure that the rigid towing bar is properly fitted,
because in this condition the towing vehicle
remains the only braking vehicle.

Furthermore, before the transport verify that all movable parts of the lift truck are properly fixed.

WARNING: Apply the parking brake and secure the wheels with chocks or similar devices.

The clearance gauge exceeds the limits fixed for International Transports. Therefore specific permissions for
special transports from the appropriate authorities must be provided.

CAUTION: To transport the vehicle on road, railroad and navigable networks,

follow the rules of the MINISTRY OF TRANSPORTATION in force in
the transit-countries.
For further information, refer to the qualified C.V.S. personnel or
your Dealer.

NOTE: Mast (fixed and mobile)

- To be included in the clearance gauge for
International Transports or to be transported Counterweights
in containers and/or crates, some groups of
the lift truck can be disassembled (accordingly
to the transportation needs), such as: Forks
or Spreader, Mast, Tyres, Front drive axle,

Loading of the lift truck
The lift truck must be lifted up for the loading, therefore use a suitable crane(s) to this purpose (the min.
lifting capacity of the crane must be higher than the mass of the vehicle to be lifted).

NOTE: Remember to ask the C.V.S. technicians or your Dealer for the masses to be lifted.

CAUTION:
If the lifting is performed with 2 cranes, use combined manoeuvres; the
operators must be in condition to see each other, remaining at a safe distance.

Use suitable chains, and hook them only at the lifting points (see the relevant section
"Vehicle lifting" in this chapter):
OP - Rear lifting eyes
OA - Front hooking brackets

NOTE: For a better and safe clamping of the load, we recommend inserting "Straight shackles type A63
UNI1947" in the lifting points.

WARNING:
Carry out all manoeuvres in maximum safety, on a clear and safe area, using suitable
sling chains and cranes. Operators must keep clear of the area covered by the vehicle
during the handling.
