This sheet transmits REVISION 1 dated May 16, 1986

of Service Bulletin 737-21-1085, "AIR CONDITIONING - DISTRIBUTION


CONTROL CABIN CONDITIONED AIR DUCT REPLACEMENT".

NOTE: This revision constitutes a complete reissue.

SUMMARY

This revision is issued to revise and include alternate tapes used in


duct replacement of Figure 1. The Material Information section is
revised to reflect these changes.

Airplane effectivity is updated to reflect current airplane ownership.

Airplanes modified per the previous release of this service bulletin do


not require additional work.

A revision bar in the left margin along with this revision number and
date indicates a change. Absence of a revision bar on a page bearing a
'revised' notice means only that existing copy has been moved or that a
minor typographical error has been corrected.

B. Reason

Accomplishmentof this service bulletin will ensure compliance


with flammability requirements for materials used on the airplane
by replacing a polyurethane foam insulated duct assembly.
A twelve second vertical flammability test conducted on the
polyurethane foam insulated duct assembly did not meet Federal
Aviation Regulation (FAR)requirements.
Replacing the polyurethane insulated duct assembly with a duct
assembly incorporating fiberglass insulation will ensure
compliance with FAR requirements.

Revision 1 revises the tape used in Figure 1 and includes


alternate tapes. The Material Information section is revised to
reflect these changes.

C. Description

A polyurethane foam insulated duct assembly in the aft end of the


forward cargo compartments is replaced with a fiberglass
insulated duct assembly.

NOTE: Attached to this service bulletin is an Evaluation Form


provided for the purpose of communicating information to
the Boeing organization responsible for the service
bulletin and its contents. The data you provide will be
used to improve the Boeing Service Bulletin Program.

This service bulletin has been reviewed by the Federal Aviation


Administration (FAA) and the modifications herein comply with the
applicable Federal Aviation Regulations (FAR's) and are FAA
APPROVED.

E. Manpower

Approximately 4 man-hours and a crew of 2 are required to


accomplish this modification per airplane.

This estimate is for direct labor performed by an experienced


crew. It does not include setup, planning, familiarization, cure
time, tool acquisition, or lost time. Factor this estimate as
necessary based on your own experience.

F. Material - Price and Availability

The part identified in Paragraph II.A may be obtained from


Boeing within the terms and conditions defined below. After
expiration of the quotation, price and delivery data will be
provided upon request.

The delivery quotation below indicates the date when parts will

III. ACCOMPLISHMENT INSTRUCTIONS

NOTE: The following paragraphs outline the general accomplishment


instructions and test requirements. The suggested sequence of
operations and detailed accomplishment instructions are indicated
by circle notes on the figure.

A. Prepare airplane for conditioned air distribution duct assembly


removal by opening the following circuit breakers on the Panel
P6-4 and install DO-NOT-CLOSE identifiers:

a. A/C VALVE OVERHEAT (C257)


b. R TEMP CONTROL AUTOMATIC (C258)
c. L TEMP CONTROL AUTOMATIC (C268)
d. MANUAL TEMP CONTROL (C267)

B. Gain access to duct assembly by removing the center and left


sections of the forward cargo compartment aft bulkhead.

C. Replace conditioned air duct assembly per Figure 1.

D. Remove DO-NOT-CLOSE identifiers and close circuit breakers opened


in Step A.

E. Check anticipator and duct limit sensors by operating the


temperature control system as required (Ref. 737 Maintenance
Manual Subject 21-61-00).

F. Check the 190 and 250 degree overheat switches per 737
Maintenance Manual Subject 21-61-51.

G. Check the conditioned air duct assembly joints for leaks by


providing air through the conditioned air distribution system
(Ref. 737 Maintenance Manual Section 21-00).

H. Restore airplane to normal configuration.
