AREA AT CHANGI AIRPORT

PROJECT REF : 2024/00087

PROJECT LOCATION : CHANGI AIRPORT TERMINAL 2

MOS TITLE: Concreting work

Date Rev Description Prepared by Approved by

26-Feb-24 00 Initial Issue Lourline Tangzo Eugene Tan

METHOD OF STATEMENT

1.0 OBJECTIVE

The purpose of this method shall be used for the construction of concrete structures.

2.0 CONSTRUCTION METHOD

The sequence of the work to be carried out shall be as follows: -

2.1 Material and Storage
2.1.1 Cement
2.1.2 Aggregate
2.1.3 Water
2.1.4 Admixtures
2.1.5 Steel Reinforcement
2.2 Formworks
2.3 Production of Concrete

2.1 Materials and Storage

2.1.1 Cement
The cement to be used shall be from an approved manufacturer described. Under
Ordinary Portland Cement, Rapid Hardening Portland Cement, Moderate Sulphate
Resisting Portland Cement and Sulphate Resisting Portland Cement.

Transportation of the cement to the site shall be in a covered vehicle to protect water
again. Storages of the cement shall be inside the waterproof store or in silo for the
material delivered in bulk.

2.1.2 Aggregate
Aggregates shall be naturally occurring sand, gravel, or stone, washed or unwashed which
comply with the specification and obtained from a source approved by the Engineers.

Aggregates shall be free from adhering coatings and shall not contain any harmful
material that affects the strength, durability, and impermeability of the concrete.

Relevant testing as a requirement on aggregate samples shall be carried out to the

satisfaction of the Engineer before being used on site.

Separate storage shall be provided for each different size of aggregates used and shall be
handled and stored to minimize segregation and contamination.

2.1.3 Water
METHOD OF STATEMENT

Water shall be cleaned and free from material deleterious to concrete in the plastic and
shall comply with the specification requirement. The source of water shall obtain approval
from the Engineers.

2.1.4 Admixtures
Approved admixtures may be used in the concrete mixed if required by the Engineer’s or
Clients.

All requirements and sampling, acceptance test, uniformity tests, independent test,
chloride content, information provided by manufactured including compliance certificates
and marking shall be in accordance with specification.

2.1.5 Steel Reinforcement

Steel reinforcement shall be cut to correct length and bent to exact shape as per on
drawings. Bar schedule shall be submitted to the Engineer’s for checked and approval
prior to process of cut and bent.

Cold worked and hot rolled bar shall not be straightened once have been bent. In case to
bent mild steel reinforcement already cast in concrete, the internal radius of bend shall be
not less than twice the diameter of bar.

Steel reinforcement shall be placed according to the number, size, length, form and
position as specified on drawing.

All intersecting bars shall be tied together with binding wire. Spacer from concrete blocks
shall be placed between bars and formworks with the thickness of the spacer block as
specified on drawings.

Completed rebar shall be inspected by the Engineer’s for the approval prior to place with
concrete.

2.2 Formwork

2.2.1 The formwork shall be so erected to comply with the following requirements: -

o Conformity of dimensions within allowable tolerance.

o Strength and rigidity of formwork.
o Sufficient propping and bracing to the formwork support.
o Tightness and sealing of joint from loss of grout.

2.2.2 The formwork material shall be correctly selected in compliance with the provision of the
finished surface in the specification.

2.2.3 Where applicable, the inside surface of forms shall be coated with mould oil to prevent the
adhesion of concrete.

2.2.4 The removal of the falsework and formwork shall be carried out according to
specifications. Where necessary, the formwork shall be so arranged that the soffit from,
METHOD OF STATEMENT

properly supported, can be retained in position for such period as may be required by the
condition of maturing concrete or the specification.

2.2.5 After the removal of the formwork, the formwork components shall be cleaned and made
good for the next stage of work.

2.3 Production and Placing of Concrete

2.3.1 Concrete shall consist of either prescribed mixed or designed mixed.

2.3.2 Prescribed mixed shall be used for minor works or involved with a small quantity of
concrete. The prescribed mix shall be prepared with proportion as specified in the
specification.
2.3.3 For major works, designed mixed shall be used as the specified grade of concrete on the
drawings.
2.3.4 A Trial mix shall be carried out to determine the proportion for each grade of concrete.
Concrete test cubes shall be prepared for each trial and mixed for strength test on 7 and
28 days.
2.3.5 From the trial mixed test result, the suitable mix shall then be chosen and then designated
as the designed mix with the approval from the Engineers.
2.3.6 The quantities of cement, fine aggregate and several of coarse aggregates shall be
measured by weight or other methods approved by the Engineers.
2.3.7 The quantities of water and admixtures shall be measured by weight or volume.
2.3.8 The bathing of concrete shall be carried out by the approved mix.
2.3.9 Concrete shall be transported to the placed area by concrete mixer truck if mixed by
batching plant. For site mixed, mixing shall be as close as possible to the working area to
avoid re-handling.
2.3.10 Formworks and steel reinforcement shall be clean and free from standing water before
being placed with concrete.
2.3.11 Slump test shall be carried out, if the result is within the tolerance of requirement, a cube
test shall then be prepared with the numbers as specified in the specification.
2.3.12 Concrete shall be deposited into the formworks in a horizontal layer to a compacted depth
not exceeding 450 mm or as per specifications.
2.3.13 Concrete shall be thoroughly compacted by vibration continuously until the expulsion of air
has practically ceased.
2.3.14 Finished concrete surfaces shall not be subject to disturbance within 24 hours after
compaction or as directed by the Engineers.
2.3.15 Curing of concrete shall be carried out after completed pouring and compaction to keep
the concrete surfaces continuously damped.
