when the window is removed. Pull inboard on the ditching line to break
the attaching wire.
At the end of each ditching line is an attaching pin which can be inserted
into one of the pip pin sockets located on the fuselage below each exit
window.
●●●

Cabin Interior Emergency Lighting

The cabin interior emergency lighting gives the passengers and crew a
lighted evacuation path and provides guidance to the exits in case of an
emergency or loss of aircraft power. In a darkened or smoke-filled cabin,
white floorpath lights identify the exit path, red lights signify the need
to stop and look for an exit and lighted exit arrow signs point up to the
nearest exit. See the Evacuation Routes diagram.
The cabin interior emergency lighting can be manually activated or
“armed” by control switches in the cockpit overhead panel. The emer-
gency lights come on anytime the system is “armed” and main aircraft
power is not available. Once activated, the system operates continuously
under battery power.
The emergency lighting consists of the emergency exit signs above the
main entrance door and the emergency overwing exits, the airstair lights
and selected cabin lights.
The cabin lights that also function as emergency lights receive power
from the emergency light batteries when the emergency lighting system
is activated.

Placards and Emergency Markings
Placards are installed throughout the aircraft interior in accordance with
applicable FAA regulations. They provide warnings, directions, procedures
and general information regarding passenger seating and related safety
requirements including emergency exits, smoking limitations, relocations/
storage of components for taxi, takeoff, and landing (seat positioning,
closing of tables, doors), locations of safety equipment and storage limits
(weight placards). International symbols are used where possible.

The emergency smoke evacuation valve is a two-position valve. Rotation
of the emergency smoke evacuation valve handle to the EVAC SMOKE
position allows deflation of the baggage compartment door seal. With the
door seal deflated, pressurized cabin air escapes around the door frame,
drawing with it any smoke. When smoke ceases, rotation of the valve
handle to NORMAL OPS allows the door seal to reinflate.
●●●

Smoke Goggles
Smoke goggles are installed in the cockpit. See the Emergency Equip-
ment Layout.
●●●

Smoke Detector
A smoke detector is located in the baggage compartment headliner. It is
designed to detect smoke within this area and display a warning indication
in the cockpit. Some aircraft may have additional smoke detectors installed

Telephone Systems
There are two different satellite communications systems on the aircraft.
The INMARSAT system provides two channels and the Iridium system
provides two channels to the aircraft for a total of four available channels.
The INMARSAT system uses seven satellites and a network of ground
earth stations. The calls are routed from the aircraft to a geosynchronous
satellite to a ground station and then to the call recipient. Some latency
(delay) can be expected. The system is a “pay by the minute” service.
The Iridium system uses 66 low earth orbit satellites. The calls are routed
from the aircraft to a satellite, then passed from satellite to satellite until it
is routed to the ground station and then to the call recipient. This system
does not have very much latency (delay), but call quality can be a little
choppy, due to the many hand-offs. Usage plans are available.
NOTE
The cabin phone system has power anytime

Wireless Local Area Network System
The Wireless Local Area Network (WLAN) allows passengers to use
laptop computers without physically connecting to the onboard network.
The system also includes the capability for users to share files across
the onboard network and share a networked printer. A dedicated WLAN
master switch is located in the cockpit and must be on to allow power to
the WLAN system.

Connect a Laptop
Connecting to the cabin wireless network is very similar to connecting to

If you are having problems with the network, there are ap-
plications that can be installed on a smart phone to monitor
the status of the network. An example is MATA (Mobile Ac-
cess Troubleshooting Application). These applications can
perform network checks and provide the user with network
status, or e-mail a status report to the service provider for
diagnostic purposes. Contact your service provider for more
information.

Internet Access - General
NOTE
Most wireless devices that are 3G/4G and Wi-Fi-
capable use a least-cost-routing model. If both
cellular and Wi-Fi networks are available, they
route data over the Wi-Fi network first. They
make the assumption that Wi-Fi not only has
infinite bandwidth, but it is free. This assump-
tion is not valid on the aircraft. Many devices
do low-level housekeeping tasks such as syn-
chronization, backup, downloads and updates in
the background only when they are connected
through Wi-Fi. You may not be aware these
tasks are taking place.
Typical tasks of this type include application
or content downloads or updates (e.g. Google
Play or Apple Store), cloud synchronization (e.g.
iCloud; Amazon Cloud; Whispersync), operat-
ing system updates, and backups (typically to
corporate enterprise servers). It is worthwhile to
learn your devices and how they use wireless
services.
Even devices not in active use may be con-
nected and consuming bandwidth. Devices not
being actively used should be turned off or
placed in “airplane mode.”
All devices in an aircraft compete for the same
available bandwidth.
You may be managing all the devices under your
control correctly and still have a bad experience
due to a rogue device brought on board by one
of your guests.

Page 179
Communications Published November, 2018
G450 Select Cabin Operating Manual
To prevent unintended data connections and
fees, close all applications that access the
Internet when aboard the aircraft. Applications
that access the Internet for automatic updates
can start an unintended connection. Always
disconnect laptops from the network when not
accessing the Internet by disabling the network
or wireless connection or by removing the net-
work cable.
If the system can’t stay connected for more than
a few seconds at a time, contact Gulfstream
Technical Operations - 1-800-810-GULF (1-800-
810-4853) or 1-912-965-4178.
For assistance with the following suggestions,
please contact your service provider. Limit ac-
cess to the system by password protecting the
wireless access point. Configure the router to
use a manual connection rather than an on-
demand connection. Restrict access to video-
streaming sites from which movies and videos
can be downloaded.

GOOD TO KNOW
A network utility tool such as FING Network Scanner can be
used to determine which devices are accessing the network
and may be potentially using data. Contact your service
provider for more information.

NOTE
The Yonder/Ku-Band option supports web brows-
ing, email and Voice over Internet Protocol.
Video conferencing/streaming is not supported
or assured.
The Yonder mobile network provides high-speed Internet service to
multiple customer classes operating simultaneously around the world.
The Ku-Band service uses 22 satellites and 18 ground stations to provide
service. The service is faster than L-Band service, but the service is de-
pendent on weather conditions at the ground station.

Notes: Coverage is current as of October 2014 and is shown for VR-12 antennas and then-current network configurations. This map indicates
satellite regions that overlap and in some cases overlay each other. The satellite region to which the terminal is connected is determined from
numerous operational and network variables. All coverage regions are subject to change. Actual data rates depend on the contracted service
offering and may vary due to a number of factors, including satellite performance, aircraft operations, and overall network usage. Map not to
scale. Duplication or distribution of this map without written consent of ViaSat, Inc. is strictly prohibited.

Coverage Map

The typical subscription for this service involves a flat rate per month
for a 5 gigabyte allowance. Overages are charged per gigabyte or part
of a gigabyte.

Access the Internet

GOOD TO KNOW
The SDR contains an automatic WAN management function
called Global One IP (GOIP). The GOIP will switch between
3G, Ku and SBB links with no disruption of service.
1. Open a web browser.
2. Browse to the SDR Main Page at SDR.Lan/
3. When the page loads, verify all connections are green/connected.
4. If the aircraft is configured as a manual connection, select the Connect
button to the left.
5. Once the offboard links are verified as connected, open a new tab in
your browser and access the internet.
6. If you are using a manual connection, disconnect the link when fin-
ished. If you are using an automatic connection, no further action is
necessary.

Operational Information

NOTICE
TRANSFERRING NETWORKS MAY CAUSE THE
SYSTEM TO SWITCH TO A HIGH COST LINK AND
REMAIN CONNECTED. SOME SERVICES DO NOT
WORK ACROSS ALL LINKS.

The system is set to automatically switch to and from the Ku-Band satellite
link to the L-Band satellite link when entering or leaving a coverage area
if SwiftBroadband is activated on the aircraft. It can also be set up for a
manual transfer between the two links. The manual transfer method avoids
unexpected connections to the L-Band system with accompanying costs.

NOTE
The SwiftBroadband option supports web brows-
ing and email Video conferencing/streaming and
VoIP is not supported or assured.
The satellite communication system is configured for single channel
INMARSAT SwiftBroadband (SBB) high-speed data service through the
L-Band satellite service (I-4 satellites).
L-Band transmissions are slower, and are not recommended for video
conference/streaming or VPN connections. There are some gaps in the
I-4 satellite coverage, particularly near the poles. When the aircraft enters
such a gap, the system drops down to the I-3 satellites. When using the
I-3 satellites, the only access is for safety of flight information for the
flight crew. Cabin services resume when the gap is crossed and an I-4
satellite is regained.
The SBB High-speed data system is accessible through the cabin wireless
LAN. This service is billed per mega-byte sent or received.

GOOD TO KNOW

Satellite Television
Satellite television system enables the aircraft to receive digital video
and audio programming available from direct broadcast satellites. The
system takes these signals, decodes them to the correct broadcast format,
and distributes them to the aircraft entertainment systems. Provided the
system is on and the receivers are active, channels can be selected as video
sources at the passenger control units or the galley touchscreen.

Basic Viewing Information

The aircraft navigation system must be activated and navigation informa-
tion must be available to the satellite television system in order to make
sure the antenna is properly positioned.

GOOD TO KNOW
Services can vary, depending on the location of the aircraft.
Make sure maintenance personnel load the files for the area
of the flight.
DIRECTV (US)
This subscription service is available in the continental United States.
The channel line-up is stable. The service is reauthorized periodically
through an exchange of pings. If the aircraft is out of the service area,
the pings are not exchanged and the service is not authorized. When
returning to the service area, or when powering the aircraft for a flight
after being out of the service area, turn the system on to get a ping as
soon as possible. For more information, contact the service provider.
Free to Air (International)
Many satellite services are available without a subscription. These
include ASTRA, HOTBIRD, NILESAT and others. The channel
lineup is not stable. Anything can be anywhere.

GOOD TO KNOW
Only one satellite service can be used at a time. If two pas-
sengers try to use different services, the TV antenna can not
lock on to two different satellites. The antenna can lock up and
fail to provide any service, as well as requiring maintenance.

System Restrictions
Ground Operations
Performance cannot be guaranteed while the aircraft is on the ground
even if the antenna is in clear view of the satellite. In addition, physi-
cal obstructions such as other aircraft, buildings, and terrain may be
present and prevent reception of the satellite signal.

Satellite Television Service Availability

Weather Conditions
The system is designed to operate while the aircraft is in straight/level
flight above cloud cover. Adverse weather conditions can affect over-
all signal quality since the signal can be attenuated as it passes through
the earth’s atmosphere. Degradation or temporary interruption of the
signal can occur depending on the severity of weather conditions.
Performance can also be affected if the uplink site is experiencing
adverse weather conditions due to atmospheric attenuation as the
signal is transmitted to the satellite.

Page 200
Published November, 2018 Entertainment
G450 Select Cabin Operating Manual
NOTE
Even if the weather is good at the aircraft loca-
tion, reception can be affected by the weather
at the location of the ground station which could
be hundreds or more miles away.
Astronomical Conditions
Unusual solar activity may affect the performance of the system. Pe-
riodically, solar flares erupt from the sun, causing enormous amounts
of energy and radiation to be released. As this energy travels past the
earth, it can adversely affect satellite transmissions; however, this
type of phenomena rarely occurs.

Operational Instructions
NOTE
Steps 1 and 2 are to be performed by flight deck
personnel only.
Flight Deck Personnel Instructions
1. Gulfstream recommends flight deck personnel not apply power to
the satellite television system until the inertial reference system
has been aligned. This is because the system requires positional/
directional guidance from the inertial reference system in order
to orient the antenna.
2. Once the inertial reference system has been aligned, select the
SAT TV MASTER switch to ON. This initiates a warm-up cycle
of approximately 10 minutes, but may take as long as 20 minutes.
Cabin Personnel Instructions
NOTE
Due to the long warm-up cycle, Gulfstream
advises cabin personnel to work through the
receiver setups so the satellite television system
is fully operational before the passengers arrive.
1. During the warm-up cycle, satellite TV is not displayed as an
option on the cabin switch panels or touchscreen remote controls.

Page 201
Entertainment Published November, 2018
G450 Select Cabin Operating Manual
NOTE
When initially selecting satellite television
(DTV‑1) after the warm-up cycle, it may take ad-
ditional time for the system to orient the antenna,
find the satellite, and begin functioning. During
this period of about 5 minutes, the cabin moni-
tor is blank or may have the words “Receiver
Inactive” on it.
2. Once setup is complete, the blank screen transitions to a green
screen displaying an “Acquiring Signal” message.
3. If you do not see the green screen with message on DTV-1, try
one of the other digital television signals, such as DTV-2, -3, etc.

Selecting Programming
NOTE
After selecting a television receiver, the system
responds by tuning to the DIRECTV satellite.
After a few minutes, programming should ap-
pear on the monitor. If reception is poor on the
ground, wait until the aircraft is aloft; reception
should improve.
1. Make sure the cabin audio is ON and the cabin monitor(s) video
source is selected to the desired receiver.
2. From the touchscreen control panel, select the desired television
receiver.

LAVATORY
Lavatory Equipment and Furnishings
Vacuum Toilet
The vacuum toilet system is a large capacity, vacuum-operated unit with
a waste tank located in the aft equipment compartment. It is designed to
hold a larger volume of waste and eliminate chemical odors. Instead of a
chemical pre-charge, the system uses a small amount (about 6 ounces or
177 milliliters) of the aircraft water during each flush. There are vacuum
toilets installed in the forward and aft lavatories.
The vacuum function for the toilets comes from one of two sources, cabin
differential pressure (above 16,000 feet or 4877 meters) or the vacuum
generator (below 16,000 feet or 4877 meters). The vacuum generator is
aircraft powered, which means external power must be connected or the
APU must be running to flush a toilet on the ground. When the vacuum
generator is operating, only one toilet can flush at a time.
The water system must be on for the bowl rinse feature to be active.
The vacuum waste status panel is located in the baggage compartment
EER. The vacuum toilet system ceases to function once the tank reaches
its “full tank” level to prevent sewage from passing overboard.

WATER SYSTEM
Water Supply
The aircraft is equipped with one 30-gallon (113.6 liter) water tank in-
stalled in the baggage compartment. The system is designed to store and
dispense fresh water for use in the forward lavatory, aft lavatory and in
the galley. Upon demand, the water is passed through the supply lines
where it is processed through a filter and sterilizer before reaching the
lavatories and galley. Manual valves are installed to manually shut off
the water supply leading to the forward lavatory, galley and aft lavatory.
These valves are located outboard of the cabinetry.
The system provides the ability to purge the system. The purge function
clears supply lines, drain lines, filters, sterilizer and water tank of all water.
See Water System Servicing.

Water Sterilization System

A sterilization system is installed under each water tank in the baggage
compartment. They are designed to sterilize water on board the aircraft
without the use of chemicals. As the water is passed through the steril-
izer, it is irradiated with a special germicidal ultraviolet light. The water
is then sterilized of harmful pathogens and rendered safe to drink. The
treated water is completely unchanged as to taste, odor, mineral content
or other properties.

NOTE
Prior to dispatch of aircraft in cold environments,
confirm purge/supply valve integrity by perform-
ing water system purge and supply operational
checks in accordance with water system instruc-
tions. Instructions for purging the water system
are available below, on the inside of the water
system cabinet and in the Ground Handling and
Servicing Handbook.
When operating in cold environments, ensure
water system line heaters are energized 20
minutes prior to resetting and servicing water
system after system purge.
After filling water tank it is mandatory to bleed
air from all hot water faucets before turning on
water heaters electrically.
If water is retained in the tank while the aircraft
is on the ground in cold weather conditions (be-
low freezing), external power can be connected
and the water tank electric heater turned on by
the switch located in the EER cabinet adjacent
to the tank. Ensure valve V6 remains closed.
In cold weather conditions (below freezing), turn
on the system heat on for approximately 20
minutes prior to turning water system on.

Cold Weather Considerations
GOOD TO KNOW
Many facilities will fine the owner/operator for attempting
to purge the water system on the ground in cold weather. It
is a good practice to verify that purging has been done prior
to final descent into your destination.
If the aircraft remains overnight at airports where normal support and
hangar space is not available, the flight crew must ensure that all water
storage compartments (potable and waste) are protected.
NOTE
If overnight temperatures are expected to be
5° F (-15° C) and below, the potable water
and waste water systems must be drained to
protect the systems. If overnight temperatures
are expected to be between 32° F (0° C) and
5° F (-15° C), water system draining is optional
(see Table).
To service the water system for overnight outside storage, proceed as
follows (see Table for draining requirements):
1. Where temperatures do not require system draining, proceed as fol-
lows:
A. Service potable water and waste water tanks as soon as possible
after flight.
B. Drain all toilets to protect from freezing.
C. If the galley water system has not been drained, apply heat to
the aircraft as required. See Table for schedules.
2. Where temperatures are expected to be 5° F (-15° C) and below,
proceed as follows:
A. Drain all water systems as soon as possible after flight.
B. Leave drain valves open to permit residual fluids to escape after
the systems have been drained.
