The Fifth Sun

Ometeotl, the god of duality had four children, the cardinal gods.
Quetzalcoatl, the god of light, on the West. Huitzilopochtli, the god
of war, on the South. Xipe Totec, the god of gold and farming, on
the East, and Tezcatlipoca, the god of, night, and sorcery, on the
North. They created the universe and the Sun, but to do this, one of
the four cardinal gods would have to sacrifice themself into a fire.

The first God elected was Tezcatlipoca, he jumped into the fire and
created the First Sun. Quetzalcoatl was dissatisfied and decided to knocked out of the sky.
Thus, there was no Sun.

Quetzalcoatl jumped into the fire and became the Second Sun. However, Tezcatlipoca was
angry and transformed himself into a tiger to attack Quetzalcoatl, knocking him out of the
sky. Quetzalcoatl was sad and decided to wipe all humans from Earth with floods and
hurricanes.

The Third Sun was created with Tlaloc. However, Tezcatlipoca was
jealous, and he seduced and kidnaped Tlaloc’s wife. Tlaloc was
depressed and refused to provide water to people on the Earth, as
a consequence a great drought appears. He ignored all prayers for
rain. One day, he became angry and rained fire on the Earth instead
of water, extinguishing human race.

Chalchiuhtlicue, Tlaloc’s new wife, became the Fourth Sun.

However, Tezcatlipoca said that she was faking to
humans. Chalchiuhtlicue was devastated and she cried blood for 52
years. The Earth was flooded with blood and humans were forced to transform into fish to
survive.

After that, all gods gathered to decide who would become the next
Sun. None of the cardinal gods wanted to sacrifice, so two of
the lesser gods, Nanauatzin and Tecciztécatl jumped into the fire.
Worried about having two Suns, the other gods decided to change
one into the Moon.
