Location: Anadolu Kavağı

Hello everyone! Welcome the
my video. I’m Sude. I’m
studying civil engineering at
Yıldız Technical University.
Today , I’m going to talk about
Anadolu Kavağı. I especially
want to introduce this place
because many people
introduced familiar places and
this place is more peaceful
and quiet than other places.
Let’s start!
Anadolu Kavağı is a
neighbourhood in the
municipality and district of
Beykoz, Istanbul Province. It’s
at northern end of the
Bosphorus. "Anadolu" is the
Turkish name for Anatolia, and
"kavak" meant "control post"
in Ottoman Turkish,
suggesting the strategic
importance of its location. It’s
directly across from Rumeli
Kavağı. The real name of
Anadolu Kavağı was Hieron
and it was an important
outpost for the Romans and
Byzantines.

For transportation, since it is

by the sea, it can be reached
by ferry from Üsküdar or
Eminönü. The other
alternative is by bus departing
from Üsküdar. Since the roads
are narrow and crowded, you
should come by ferry.
(restaurant area)
Once a fishing village, it
retains a village atmosphere
and has many fish restaurants
offering lunches for
passengers on the longer
Bosphorus cruises which
usually terminate here. The
most consumed food here is
fish and bread. But in summer,
the most consumed lokma, ice
cream and waffles. There are
both cheap both expensive
restaurants here. For example
fish and bread … Turkish Lira
here.

There are many nice gift shops

here where you can shop.
Some shops are a little
expensive. However, you can
buy nice gifts for your loved
ones here.

The village's most prominent

historic structures are a small
mosque commissioned by Ali
Pasha of Midilli in 1593, and a
fountain commissioned by
Cevriye Hatun in 1785.

Yoros Cafe
And now we are in Yoros Cafe.
It’s about 5 minutes walking
distance from the square. I
think this cafe so speacial than
others because there is a
passageway to the castle from
here. You should rest a little
here, drink a Turkish tea or
coffee while looking at the
view and continue on your
way. Let’s take a short break
and then continue.

We are climbing the stairs to

the castle now.

Yoros Castle
Yoros Castle is a castle located
in Anadolu Kavak, Istanbul,
dating back to the Eastern
Roman period. After the
empire weakened, it fell into
the hands of the Genoese and
remained in their hands for a
long time; That's why the
belief that it was a Genoese
castle was born. It is not
exactly known where the
name comes from. It is widely
accepted that it comes from
Hieron, meaning "holy place".
However, it is also claimed
that it comes from ourios,
meaning "favorable winds", an
epithet of the ancient god
Zeus. It is also thought that
the name Yoros comes directly
from oros, meaning
"mountain".
In addition The Byzantines,
Genoese and Ottomans
fought over this castle for
centuries. Then, The
Ottomans took control of the
castle. Today, most of the
castle in ruins but Greek
inscriptions still exist.
Look at this view!
And that’s all I have to say, I
hope you like it , see you.
