10 Handling and labelling of samples:

After examination of each length of core, the specimens selected for laboratory testing by the Engineer
will be wrapped individually with a fresh sheet of aluminium foil that shall be sealed and secured by
adhesive tape.

Depths of rock core samples will be indicated on the core box by durable markers at the beginning and
end of each drill run. Rigid core spacers will be used to indicate missing lengths. The Contract title,
borehole reference number and the depth of coring in each run will be clearly indicated in ink inside, on
top and on the right-hand end of the box.

Care will be taken to ensure that total weight of core box does not exceed 60kg.

All samples will be protected from direct sunlight. All samples will be removed from the site of the
boreholes at the end of each day or the borehole and will be stored in a structure free from disturbance.
The samples will be packed and transported to the testing laboratory in such a manner that undisturbed
samples arrive in an undisturbed state.

All samples will be labelled with a unique reference number immediately after being taken from a borehole
or excavation. For preserving samples for natural moisture content, they will be sealed in airtight container
or coated in wax at the same time. If the sample is of ground which might be contaminated and contain
hazardous substances, then the label will carry a warning to that effect. The label will be marked with
indelible ink and be sufficiently robust to withstand the effect of its environment and the transport of the
sample.

Photographs of cores with necessary labelling will be taken in
