A spooky glimpse of the Invisible World—and the In-
visible War in hyperspace.
Daniel 10: A Glimpse into the Dark Side
1] In the third year of Cyrus king of Persia a thing
was revealed unto Daniel, whose name was called
Belteshazzar; and the thing was true, but the time
appointed was long: and he understood the thing,
and had understanding of the vision.
2] In those days I Daniel was mourning three full weeks.
3] I ate no pleasant bread, neither came flesh nor wine
in my mouth, neither did I anoint myself at all, till
three whole weeks were fulfilled.
4] And in the four and twentieth day of the first month,
as I was by the side of the great river, which is Hid-
dekel;
5] Then I lifted up mine eyes, and looked, and behold a
certain man clothed in linen, whose loins were girded
with fine gold of Uphaz:
6] His body also was like the beryl, and his face as the
appearance of lightning, and his eyes as lamps of fire,
and his arms and his feet like in colour to polished
brass, and the voice of his words like the voice of a
multitude.
“...a certain man”: “Angel” = angelos, military messen-
ger. A unique form of created being; not preexistent,
but with formidable capabilities. Identity: Gabriel? Pre-
incarnate Christ? (He wouldn’t need Michael’s help…)
7] And I Daniel alone saw the vision: for the men that
were with me saw not the vision; but a great quaking
fell upon them, so that they fled to hide themselves.
8] Therefore I was left alone, and saw this great vi-
sion, and there remained no strength in me: for my

comeliness was turned in me into corruption, and I
retained no strength.
9] Yet heard I the voice of his words: and when I heard
the voice of his words, then was I in a deep sleep on
my face, and my face toward the ground.
10] And, behold, an hand touched me, which set me upon
my knees and upon the palms of my hands.
11] And he said unto me, O Daniel, a man greatly beloved,
understand the words that I speak unto thee, and
stand upright: for unto thee am I now sent. And when
he had spoken this word unto me, I stood trembling.
12] Then said he unto me, Fear not, Daniel: for from the
first day that thou didst set thine heart to understand,
and to chasten thyself before thy God, thy words were
heard, and I am come for thy words.
13] But the prince of the kingdom of Persia withstood me
one and twenty days: but, lo, Michael, one of the chief
princes, came to help me; and I remained there with
the kings of Persia.
14] Now I am come to make thee understand what shall
befall thy people in the latter days: for yet the vision
is for many days.
Michael
• Michael, a chief “prince” (Dan 10:13, 21; 12:1; Jude
9; Rev 12:7).
• Cf. Voice of Archangel (1 Thess 4:16).
• Michael fights Satan himself (Jude 9).
15] And when he had spoken such words unto me, I set
my face toward the ground, and I became dumb.
16] And, behold, one like the similitude of the sons of
men touched my lips: then I opened my mouth, and
spake, and said unto him that stood before me, O my
lord, by the vision my sorrows are turned upon me,
and I have retained no strength.
17] For how can the servant of this my lord talk with this
my lord? for as for me, straightway there remained
no strength in me, neither is there breath left in me.

18] Then there came again and touched me one like the
appearance of a man, and he strengthened me,
19] And said, O man greatly beloved, fear not: peace be
unto thee, be strong, yea, be strong. And when he
had spoken unto me, I was strengthened, and said,
Let my lord speak; for thou hast strengthened me.
20] Then said he, Knowest thou wherefore I come unto
thee? and now will I return to fight with the prince
of Persia: and when I am gone forth, lo, the prince
of Grecia shall come.
21] But I will shew thee that which is noted in the scrip-
ture of truth: and there is none that holdeth with me
in these things, but Michael your prince.
Insights into the “Dark Side”
Spiritual conflicts occur among spiritual beings behind
the emergence of the major empires. In some sense,
these beings are territorial and have locality. They
impact, and are impacted by, actions taken within our
physical world.
Satan: Rampant Misconceptions
Misconceptions about Satan are rampant—and in this
case, very dangerous! They are compounded by serious
literature…
Dante Alighieri
The Divine Comedy (Italian: Divina Commedia) is an
epic poem written by Dante Alighieri between 1308
and his death in 1321. It is widely considered the pre-
eminent work of Italian literature, and is seen as one
of the greatest works of world literature. The poem’s
imaginative and allegorical vision of the afterlife is a
culmination of the medieval worldview as it had devel-
oped in the Western Church.
On the surface, the poem describes Dante’s travels
through the medieval concepts of Hell, Purgatory, and

Heaven; and, allegorically, it represents a soul’s jour-
ney towards God. Dante draws on medieval Christian
theology and philosophy, especially Thomistic philoso-
phy and the Summa Theologica of Thomas Aquinas.
While venerated in world literature, it departs from a
truly Biblical foundation…
Faust
Faust is the protagonist of a classic German legend: a
highly successful scholar, but dissatisfied with his life,
makes a deal with the devil, exchanging his soul for
unlimited knowledge and worldly pleasures. Faust’s
tale is the basis for many literary, artistic, cinematic,
and musical works. Faust, and the adjective faustian,
often describe an arrangement in which an ambitious
person surrenders moral integrity in order to achieve
power and success: the proverbial “deal with the devil.”
Plays and comic puppet theatre loosely based on this
legend were popular throughout Germany in the 16th
century, often reducing Faust and Mephistopheles to
mere figures of vulgar fun. The story was popularized
in England by Christopher Marlowe, who gave it a
classic treatment in his play, The Tragical History of
Doctor Faustus. In Goethe’s reworking of the story 200
years later, Faust becomes a dissatisfied intellectual
who yearns for “more than earthly meat and drink.”

Misconceptions of Satan
We need to guard against the fables and distortions
prevalent throughout all the world’s literature. Satan
does not rule in “hell.” Hell was created for him. Mis-
conceptions about “Hell” vs. Hades, Sheol, Gehenna,
Abusso, et al. abound.
Hell
The English word “Hell” is derived from the Saxon hel-
an, “to cover”; hence the covered or the invisible place.
In Scripture there are four words rendered “Hell”:
Sheol (Hebrew), Hades, Gehenna, and Tartarus (all
Greek).
Sheol: lAav - sheol, occurs in the Old Testament 65 times;
• derived from a root word meaning “to ask,” “demand”;
hence, insatiableness (Prov 30:15,16).

• It is rendered “grave” 31 times (Gen 37:35; 42:38;
44:29,31; 1 Sam 2:6; etc.).
• Rendered “hell” 31 times in the AV—the place of
disembodied spirits.
• The inhabitants of sheol are “the congregation of the
dead” (Prov 21:16).
• It is the abode of the souls of the wicked dead (Num
16:33; Job 24:19; Ps 9:17; 31:17 etc.).
• It is also of the good (Ps 16:10; 30:3; 49:15; 86:13 etc.).
• Sheol is described as “deep” (Job 11:8), “dark” (Job
10:21,22), “with bars” (Job 17:16).
• The dead “go down” to it (Num 16:30,33; Ezek
31:15,16,17).
• Not to be confused with a grave: qeburah (sometimes
sheol is used connotatively). A grave is physical, and
receives the bodies. It can be used in the plural, and
one can have title to one or more graves. Sheol is
singular, never used in the plural.
Hades: a[|dhj, the Greek word for that which is out of sight,
to denote the place of the dead; translated “hell” 11
times in the NT.
• The Septuagint uses hades to translate the Hebrew
lAav - sheol, (the place of the dead) on 61 occasions
(Gen 42:38; Ps 139:8; Hos 13:14; Isa 14:9, et al.).
• In Greek it is associated with Orcus, the infernal
regions, a dark and dismal place in the very depths of
the earth, the common receptacle of all disembodied
spirits.
• In Greek conceptions, it had two subterranean divi-
sions: Elysium and Tartarus.
• Hades refers to the abode of the unsaved dead prior
to the great white throne judgment (Rev 20:11-15).
• It is a prison (1 Pet 3:19) with gates and bars and
locks (Mt 16:18; Rev 1:18); is downward (Mt 11:23;
Lk 10:15) and the righteous and the wicked are
separated.
• Some view the blessed dead as in a part of Hades
called Paradise (Lk 23:4) in “Abraham’s bosom” (Lk
16:22).

• However, the rich man lifted up his eyes (v.23) the
“bosom of Abraham” was “afar off.”
• Abraham’s bosom is in heaven (Mt 8:11).
• Most of the early church fathers viewed Paradise as
a part of Heaven, not Hades. The “two compartment”
view is an accommodation to the Greek conception.
Gehenna: Gehenna (originally Ge bene Hinnom; i.e., “the
valley of the sons of Hinnom”); a deep, narrow ravine
to the south of Jerusalem, separating Mount Zion
from the so-called “Hill of Evil Counsel.”
• Here the idolatrous Jews offered their children in
sacrifice to Molech (2 Chr 28:3, 33:6; Jer 7:31,19:2-6).
• This valley afterwards became the city dump. A fire
was continually burning there. It became an idiom
for a place of everlasting fire and burning. In this
sense it is used by our Lord 11 times (Mt 5:22,29,30;
10:28 18:9; 23:15,33; Mk 9:43,45,47; Lk 12:5), “the
lake which burneth with fire and brimstone.”
Tartarus: Another word translated “hell” but only one
use in the New Testament (2 Pet 2:4).
• The deepest abyss of Hades: “...As far below Hades
as the earth is below Heaven...” (Homer’s Iliad).
• It is the specific place of incarceration of the angels
that sinned (Gen 6; 2 Pet 2:4; Jude 1:6).
Abousso: Another related term is the “bottomless pit,” or
the abyss, or a;bussoj - aboussos. This is what the Beast
of Revelation comes out of (Rev 11:7; 17:8) and where
Satan will be bound for 1,000 years (Rev 20:1, 3).
• It is also the place from which the demon locusts
emerge (Rev 9).
The Rich Man and Lazarus: Luke 16
• The man in Hades was fully conscious.
• Memory; speaking; pain; desires.
• His eternal destiny was irrevocably fixed.
• He knew that what he was experiencing was fair and
just.

• He also knew what his brothers needed to do to avoid
his own fate: repent. (He was not yet in Hell, but only
Hades.)
Misconceptions of Satan
• He does not rule in hell.
• Hell was created for him.
• There are two prevalent myths about Satan: 1) That
he doesn’t exit (anyone who doesn’t believe he exists
should try resisting him for awhile!); and 2) That
he is everywhere. (Wrong—he has locality; he is not
omnipresent...but his resources are substantial…)
Ezekiel 28: The Power Behind the Throne
1] The word of the LORD came again unto me, saying,
2] Son of man, say unto the prince of Tyrus, Thus saith
the Lord GOD; Because thine heart is lifted up, and
thou hast said, I am a God, I sit in the seat of God,
in the midst of the seas; yet thou art a man, and not
God, though thou set thine heart as the heart of God:
“...I am a God”: Cf. Isaiah’s words of the King of Baby-
lon (Isa 14:13, 14). For similar examples:
• The boast of Pharaoh Hophra (Ezek 29:3).
• The praise given to Herod Agrippa by the Tyrians
(Acts 12:21).
• Paul’s description of “the man of sin” with nearly
the same words (2 Thess 2:4).
Who opposeth and exalteth himself above all
that is called God, or that is worshipped; so that
he as God sitteth in the temple of God, shewing
himself that he is God.
2 Thessalonians 2:4
“I sit in the seat of God”: Tyre was known as the Holy
Island. The city was thought of as rising from its wa-
ters like the rock-throne of God.

 “...though thou set thy heart”: The words remind us of
the temptation in Genesis 3:5
3] Behold, thou art wiser than Daniel; there is no secret
that they can hide from thee:
4] With thy wisdom and with thine understanding thou
hast gotten thee riches, and hast gotten gold and
silver into thy treasures:
5] By thy great wisdom and by thy traffick hast thou
increased thy riches, and thine heart is lifted up
because of thy riches:
6] Therefore thus saith the Lord GOD; Because thou
hast set thine heart as the heart of God;
7] Behold, therefore I will bring strangers upon thee,
the terrible of the nations: and they shall draw their
swords against the beauty of thy wisdom, and they
shall defile thy brightness.
8] They shall bring thee down to the pit, and thou shalt
die the deaths of them that are slain in the midst of
the seas.
9] Wilt thou yet say before him that slayeth thee, I am
God? but thou shalt be a man, and no God, in the
hand of him that slayeth thee.
Ethbaal III was removed from his throne by Nebuchad-
nezzar in 573-572 b.c.
The Power Behind the Throne
• The Prince of Tyre (Ezek 28:1-11): “Ruler” dygIn” nagid
means ”the man at the top“ (1 Sam 9:16; 10:1; 13:14;
2 Sam 7:8). Ezekiel had prophesied against the whole
city; he was now singling out the city’s leader for a
special word from God. This ruler then was Ethbaal
III, who ruled from 591-590 b.c. to 573-572 b.c.
• The King of Tyre (Ezek 28:11-19): “King” %l,M, melek .
11] Moreover the word of the LORD came unto me, saying,
12] Son of man, take up a lamentation upon the king of
Tyrus, and say unto him, Thus saith the Lord GOD;
Thou sealest up the sum, full of wisdom, and perfect
in beauty.

There is a significant elevation of the scope of the pas-
sage…The language, though primarily here applied to
the king of Tyre, as similar language is to the king of
Babylon (Isa 14:13, 14), yet has an ulterior and fuller
accomplishment in Satan and his embodiment in the
Antichrist (Dan 7:25; 2 Thess 2:4; Rev 13:6).
13] Thou hast been in Eden the garden of God; every pre-
cious stone was thy covering, the sardius, topaz, and
the diamond, the beryl, the onyx, and the jasper, the
sapphire, the emerald, and the carbuncle, and gold:
the workmanship of thy tabrets and of thy pipes was
prepared in thee in the day that thou wast created.
The 9 precious stones mentioned in Ezek 28:12 answer
to 9 of the 12 in the high priest’s breastplate (Ex 39:10–
13; Rev 21:14, 19–21). Of the 4 rows of 3 in each, the 3rd
row is omitted in the MT, but is supplied in the LXX.
The New Jerusalem
And the building of the wall of it was of jasper:
and the city was pure gold, like unto clear glass.
And the foundations of the wall of the city were
garnished with all manner of precious stones.
The first foundation was jasper; the second,
sapphire; the third, a chalcedony; the fourth, an
emerald; The fifth, sardonyx; the sixth, sardius;
the seventh, chrysolite; the eighth, beryl; the
ninth, a topaz; the tenth, a chrysoprasus; the
eleventh, a jacinth; the twelfth, an amethyst.
And the twelve gates were twelve pearls; every
several gate was of one pearl: and the street of the
city was pure gold, as it were transparent glass.
Revelation 21:18-21
“...thy tabrets and of thy pipes”: Tabrets = tambou-
rines. Pipes: literally, “holes” in musical pipes or flutes.
14] Thou art the anointed cherub that covereth; and I
have set thee so: thou wast upon the holy mountain

 of God; thou hast walked up and down in the midst
of the stones of fire.
“...cherub”: super angel (Isa 6; Ezek 1 & 10; Rev 4 &
5). Thus, the view that he was (originally) in charge…
15] Thou wast perfect in thy ways from the day that thou
wast created, till iniquity was found in thee.
“...thou wast created”: Christ was the one who created
him. God used the Logos to create all things, including
Satan. So, Satan, even with all his power, is still only
a created being.
Ezekiel described the king in terms that could not
apply to a mere man: This “king” had appeared in the
Garden of Eden (v.13), had been a guardian cherub
(v.14a), had possessed free access to God’s holy moun-
tain (v.14b), and had been sinless from the time he was
created (v.15).
16] By the multitude of thy merchandise they have
filled the midst of thee with violence, and thou hast
sinned: therefore I will cast thee as profane out of the
mountain of God: and I will destroy thee, O covering
cherub, from the midst of the stones of fire.
“...I will cast thee out”: He was driven out of the place
of sanctity (Ezek 28:14) which he had once occupied
(cf. Ps 89:39).
17] Thine heart was lifted up because of thy beauty,
thou hast corrupted thy wisdom by reason of thy
brightness: I will cast thee to the ground, I will lay
thee before kings, that they may behold thee.
18] Thou hast defiled thy sanctuaries by the multitude
of thine iniquities, by the iniquity of thy traffick;
therefore will I bring forth a fire from the midst of
thee, it shall devour thee, and I will bring thee to
ashes upon the earth in the sight of all them that
behold thee.

astonished at thee: thou shalt be a terror, and never
shalt thou be any more.
Isaiah 14: Lamentation on the King of
Babylon
How art thou fallen from heaven, O Lucifer, son
of the morning! how art thou cut down to the
ground, which didst weaken the nations! For thou
hast said in thine heart, I will ascend into heaven,
I will exalt my throne above the stars of God: I
will sit also upon the mount of the congregation,
in the sides of the north: I will ascend above the
heights of the clouds; I will be like the most High.

Five “I will”s…
Yet thou shalt be brought down to hell, to the
sides of the pit. They that see thee shall narrowly
look upon thee, and consider thee, saying,
Is this the man that made the earth to tremble,
that did shake kingdoms;

That made the world as a wilderness, and
destroyed the cities thereof; that opened not the

will break the Assyrian in my land, and upon
my mountains tread him under foot: then shall
his yoke depart from off them, and his burden
depart from off their shoulders.

This is the purpose that is purposed upon the
whole earth: and this is the hand that is stretched
out upon all the nations. For the LORD of hosts
hath purposed, and who shall disannul it? and his
hand is stretched out, and who shall turn it back?

Satan

Satan is an actual person, not some kind of force or
“personification of evil”:
• He has intelligence Job 1:6-12
• Emotion Rev 12:12, 17
• Volition 2 Tim 2:26
• Is a morally responsible being 1 Jn 3:8
• He was created “very good” Gen 1:31
by Christ and for Him Col 1:16
Yet sometime after his creation and before Genesis 3
he rebelled against God and lost his holy condition,
through conceit. There is little doubt that he is a fallen
angel (Mt 25:41; Rev 12:7-9). After his fall he led both

angels (Mt 25:41) and human beings (Gen 3:1-7, 19)
into spiritual death by his murderous, untruthful
schemes (Jn 8:44); one-third of the angels rebelled with
Satan (Rev 12:4). Satan is also spoken of as:
• the prince of this world (Jn 12:31; 14:30; 16:11).
• the god of this age (2 Cor 4:4).
• the prince of the power of the air (Eph 2:2).
• the evil one (Mt 13:19).
• the enemy (Mt 13:39).
• a murderer, liar, father of lies (Jn 8:44).
• He is called the tempter (Mt 4:3; 1 Thess 3:5).
• an adversary like a roaring lion (1 Pet 5:8).
• He is also spoken of as the great dragon who
deceives the whole world (Rev 12:9).
• the ancient serpent (2 Cor 11:3; Rev 20:2).
• an angel of light (2 Cor 11:14).
• He is referred to as Beelzebub (Mt 12:24-27 and
Belial (2 Cor 6:15).
• He has his own kingdom (Lk 11:17-20): “the whole
world is under the control of the evil one” (1 Jn 5:19).
• Satan’s powers are great, yet he is not all-powerful.
• While he is able affect to the processes of nature so
as to cause physical death (Ex 7:10-12, 22; 8:7; Job
1-2) he is not omnipotent (Ex 8:18; 9:11;Rev 12:7-9).
• He needs God’s permission to do what he does (Job
1:12; 2:6; Lk 8:12; 22:31).
• While he is extremely wise (Eph 6:11; Rev 12:9), he
is not omniscient (Job 1:11, 21-22).
• He travels rapidly around the world (Job 1:7), but
he is not omnipresent (Mt 4:11).
• He has great influence in the affairs of human govern-
ment (Jn 12:31), yet his forces are not invincible
(Dan 10:12-14).
God’s people should neither belittle nor exaggerate the
abilities of the devil.

Satan’s Whereabouts
• God expelled him from the mount of God (heaven):
(Ezek 28:16,14).
• Satan was cast from God’s government in heaven
(Lk 10:18), but was still allowed access to God (Job
1:6-12; Zech 3:1-2).
• In the Tribulation, Satan will be cast from heaven
and restricted to the earth (Rev 12:7-13).
• During the Millennium he will be confined to the
bottomless pit (Rev 20:1-3).
• After his brief release at the end of the Millennium
(Rev 20:7-9), he will be cast into the lake of fire forever
(Rev 20:10).

His Lieutenants
The “locusts” of Revelation 9 had a king over them, the
angel of the Abyss, whose name in Hebrew is Abad-
don, and in Greek, Apollyon (Rev 9:11).The “locusts”
of Amos 7 also had a king over them: a leader by the
name of Gog [Amos 7:1(LXX) (prominent in Ezek 38,
39; & Rev 20:8).]

(2:358), Josephus (Ant. 1.31) and the Dead Sea Scrolls
(1QapGen 2:1; CD 2:17–19). The NT (2 Pet 2:4, Jude

Holographic Universe
Holography: A Provocative Transform
The main architect of this astonishing idea includes
one of the world’s most eminent thinkers—University
of London physicist David Bohm, a protégé of Ein-
stein’s and one of the world’s most respected quantum
physicists.
Bohm’s work in plasma physics in the 1950s is consid-
ered a landmark. Earlier at the Lawrence Radiation
Laboratory, he noticed that in plasmas the particles

stopped behaving like individuals and started behav-
ing as if they were part of a larger and interconnected
whole.
Moving to Princeton University in 1947, there too he
continued his work in the behavior of oceans of par-
ticles, noting their highly organized overall effects and
behaving as if they knew what each of the untold tril-
lions of individual particles were doing. Bohm’s sense
of the importance of interconnectedness, as well as
years of dissatisfaction with the inability of standard
theories to explain all of the phenomena encountered
in quantum physics, left him searching.
While at Princeton, Bohm and Einstein developed a
supportive relationship and shared their mutual rest-
lessness regarding the strange implications of current
quantum theory. Bohm’s interpretation of quantum
physics indicated that at the subquantum level location
ceased to exist. All points in space become equal to all
other points in space, and it was meaningless to speak
of anything as being separate from anything else.
Physicists call this property “nonlocality.”
One of Bohm’s most startling suggestions is that the
tangible reality of our everyday lives is really a kind
of illusion, like a holographic image. Bohm calls this
deeper level of reality the implicate (“enfolded”) order,
and he refers to our level of existence as the explicate
(“unfolded”) order.

the scientist who took the concept of the hologram and
added the technology of the laser to help create three-
dimensional photography, in his laboratory at the Uni-
versity of Michigan, Ann Arbor, in 1964, while exploring
their potential for the numerical control of machine tools
for Ford Motor Co.]

Many physicists remain skeptical of Bohm’s ideas.
Among those who are sympathetic, however, are Roger
Penrose of Oxford, the creator of the modern theory of
black holes; Bernard d’Espagnat of the University of
Paris, one of the leading authorities on the conceptual
foundations of quantum theory; and, Cambridge’s Brian
Josephson, winner of the 1973 Nobel Prize in physics.
Josephson believes that Bohm’s implicate order may
someday even lead to the inclusion of God within the
framework of science, a view which Josephson supports.
The Search for Gravity Waves
Gravitational waves are extremely small ripples in the
structure of spacetime caused by astrophysical events
like supernovae or coalescing massive binaries (neu-
tron stars, black holes). They had been predicted by
Albert Einstein in 1916, but not yet directly observed.
The GEO600 project aims at the direct detection of
gravitational waves by means of a laser interferometer
of 600 meter armslength.
GEO600
GEO 600 is a gravitational wave detector located near
Sarstedt, Germany. This instrument, and its sister
interferometric detectors, are some of the most sensi-

tive gravitational wave detectors ever designed. They
are designed to detect relative changes in distance of
the order of 10-21, about the size of a single atom com-
pared to the distance from the Earth to the Sun (!) GEO
600 is capable of detecting gravitational waves in the
frequency range 50 Hz - 1.5 kHz. Construction on the
project began in 1995.
Mystery Noise
On January 15, 2009, it was reported in New Scientist
that some yet unidentified noise that was present in
the GEO 600 detector measurements might be because
the instrument is sensitive to extremely small quan-
tum fluctuations of space-time affecting the positions
of parts of the detector. This claim was made by Craig
Hogan, a scientist from Fermilab, on the basis of his
theory of how such fluctuations should occur motivated
by the holographic principle. Apparently, the gravita-
tional wave detector in Hannover may have detected a
holographic Universe!

Jacques Fabrice Vallée (born September 24, 1939
in Val-d’Oise, France) is a venture capitalist, computer
scientist, author, ufologist and astronomer currently
residing in San Francisco, CA. In mainstream science,
Vallée is notable for co-developing the first computer-
ized mapping of Mars for NASA and for his work at
SRI International in creating ARPANET, a precursor
to the modern Internet. Vallée is also an important

figure in the study of UFOs, first noted for a defense
of the scientific legitimacy of the extraterrestrial hy-
pothesis and later for promoting the interdimensional
hypothesis.
Dr. Josef Allen Hynek (May 1, 1910 – April 27,
1986) was a United States astronomer, professor, and
ufologist. Hynek acted as scientific adviser to UFO
studies undertaken by the U.S. Air Force under three
consecutive names:
• Project Sign (1947–1949)
• Project Grudge (1949–1952)
• Project Blue Book (1952–1969).
For decades afterwards, he conducted his own indepen-
dent UFO research, developing the Close Encounter
classification system, and is widely considered the
father of the concept of scientific analysis of both re-
ports and, especially, trace evidence purportedly left
by UFOs.

Bionic Muscle
Scientists at the University of Texas at Dallas have
developed “artificial muscles” with funding from the
military. The new bionic muscle is 100 times stronger

 than yours. These muscles are made of an elastic metal
called “shape memory wire” and are chemically powered
with alcohol.
“These artificial muscles could serve multiple uses: for
prosthetic limbs for the handicapped, they could also
power everything from artificial hearts, to super-mus-
cles for astronauts or soldiers, and even self-sufficient
robotic androids.”
Limb-to-Brain Communication
Robotic limbs have limited motions and the user can’t
feel what he or she is “touching.” A new approach using
optical fibers implanted around nerves can transmit
more data and let prosthetics speak to the brain. Sci-
entists have discovered that they could stimulate a
neuron to send a message by shining infrared light on it.
DARPA, the Pentagon’s R&D branch, awarded $4 mil-
lion to a project led by Southern Methodist University
engineers to attempt to connect nerves to artificial limbs
using fiber optics.
Nanotechnology
Nanotechnology involves the manufacture and manipu-
lation of materials at the molecular or atomic level—the
smallest things can get. At that scale, materials are
measured in nanometers or billionths of a meter. A
sheet of paper, in comparison, is a whopping 100,000
nanometers thick. The potential for nano-materials
could have enormous effects on much of what we do,
including developing drugs and deal with toxic pollution.
Nano-materials already are used in at least 80 con-
sumer products made by U.S. companies (Small Times
Magazine). Artificial Intelligence is also blurring the
distinctions between man and machine.
Brain Scans
A first step toward computer mind-reading has come
from using brain scans to identify certain thoughts

with certain words at Princeton University’s Neu-
roscience Institute. The brain scans showed certain
patterns of human brain activity sparked by thinking
about physical objects, such as a horse or a house. Re-
searchers also used the brain scans to identify brain
activity shared by words related to certain topics—
thinking about “eye” or “foot” showed patterns similar
to those of other words related to body parts.
Army’s Mind Control Projects
The U.S. Army has just awarded a $4 million contract
to begin developing “thought helmets” that would
harness silent brain waves for secure communication
among troops. A five-year contract it awarded to a co-
alition of scientists from the University of California at
Irvine, Carnegie Mellon University, and the University
of Maryland seeks to “decode the activity in brain net-
works” so that a soldier could radio commands to one or
many comrades by thinking of the message he wanted
to relay and who should get it.
Brain-Computer Interfaces (BCIs)
BCI devices are implanted inside the skull but rest
outside the brain rather than within the grey matter.
They produce better resolution signals than noninva-
sive BCIs where the bone tissue of the cranium deflects
and deforms signals and have a lower risk of forming
scar-tissue in the brain than fully-invasive BCIs.
Computers that Learn
Technology giant IBM has unveiled experimental
computer chips designed for a new generation of brain-
inspired computers capable of learning from what’s
going on around them. Such cognitive computing aims
to use information from many different inputs—similar
to how the human brain can harness its experiences
of hearing, sight, smell and touch. The IBM team has
already shown that their new chips can do simple tasks

 such as navigation, pattern recognition and recognizing
visual objects.
Layered Chips 1,000 Times Faster
IBM and 3M are working towards the creation of a new
breed of microprocessors. The two partnered outfits
plan to stack up to 100 layers of chips atop one another
resulting in a microchip “brick.” Under the agreement,
IBM will contribute its expertise on packaging the
new processors, while 3M will get to work developing
an adhesive that can not only be applied in batches,
but will also allow for heat transfer without crippling
logic circuitry. These powerhouse computing towers
would attempt to cram memory and networking into a
“computer chip 1,000 times faster than today’s fastest
microprocessor, enabling more powerful smart phones,
tablets, computers and gaming devices.”
Artificial Intelligence

“JASONs”
JASON is an independent group of scientists which
advises the United States government on matters of
science and technology. The group was first created as

a way to get a younger generation of scientists—that
is, not the older Los Alamos and MIT Radiation Labo-
ratory alumni—involved in advising the government.
It was established in 1960 and has somewhere between
30 and 60 members. For administrative purposes,
JASON’s highly classified activities are run through
the MITRE Corporation, a non-profit corporation in
McLean, Virginia, which contracts with the Defense
Department.
Now a highly classified priority agenda drives a wide-
spread global arms race that will eclipse all others. It is
widely acknowledged among the informed that the next
era to envelop us is “The Age of the Hybrids,” emerging
from the accelerating convergence of Genetics, Robot-
ics, Nanotechnologies, and Artificial Intelligence.
The Coming Nightmare(s)

The real “you” is software: call it “soul,” “spirit,” “con-
sciousness,” whatever… You are temporarily resident
in a disposable “hardware” environment. Why shouldn’t
it be transferable to an alternative (perhaps advanta-
geous) environment? Even a machine-enhanced en-
vironment? What would limit a continuing path to
subsequent “upgrades”?
Convergent Technologies

Spiritual Hygiene & The Armor of God
Vulnerability Factors (excerpted from Alien
Encounters)
1. Some form of idolatry in the family background within
the previous four generations (Ex 20:4-6). Obvious
examples are demonic religions such as Hindu, Bud-
dhist, Native American, Voodoo, Scientology, New
Age groups, etc. Also, parlor games such as Ouija
boards, Dungeons and Dragons, role playing games,
etc. Don’t overlook or dismiss more subtle forms of
idolatry such as rebellion, arrogance, immorality,
impurity, greed, gluttony, et al.
2. Sins of the mind where the person does not retain
control over his thoughts, such as drug use (Rev
18:23), transcendental meditation, occultism (Isa
8:19), hypnosis, uncontrolled anger, etc. (Eph 4:26,27).
3. Attitudinal issues: excessive guilt and sorrow (2 Cor

2:119), pride, arrogance (1 Tim 3:6), lack of sexual
self-control, lack of mental peace (Phil 4:4-9), disobedi-
ence to known truth (2 Tim 2:26), secular values (Eph
2:1-3), insolence to Christ (1 Tim 5:11-14), breaking
marriage vows, casting off early faith, being idle, a
busybody, tattler, or malicious talker (1 Tim 3:11; 2
Tim 3:3; Tit 2:3).
4. Volitional participation with demons or the
spirit world in a non-Biblical context (1 Cor 10:20).
Remedial Preparations
1. Explicit renunciation of any/all of the above before
the Throne of God (1 Jn 1:9). There is a “24-hour
hotline” available at any time! It is accessible from
the privacy of your own will through prayer.
2. Ask to receive the benefits of the completed action
of Jesus Christ on your behalf (Jn 3:16; 5:24).
3. Undertake a specific commitment to the serious
study of the Bible as the inerrant Word of God (2
Tim 2:25,26; Ps 119). Make a diligent effort to “put
on the whole armor of God” (Eph 6:10-18).
4. Spend time with God in prayer every day (Eph 6:18;
1 Thess 5:17).
5. Identify and participate in a fellowship of Christian
believers in which the teaching of the (entire) Bible
receives the primary priority (Heb 10:25). Flee any
cult groups that do not restrict their allegiance and
authority to the Word of God and/or deny the deity
of Jesus Christ uniquely (1 Jn 4:1-4).
Upon an Encounter
1. Reject any invitations, deny any requests, and flee
any involvement (James 4:7; 1 Pet 5:8,9).
2. Take command and plead the Blood of Jesus Christ
on your behalf (Lk 4:35; 9:1; 1 Jn 4:4). If you rely
on Him, you are in a position of absolute authority.
Don’t allow yourself to be “bluffed” (Col 1:13).
3. Seek prayer and counsel from someone who clearly

4. Do not allow yourself to be hypnotized.
5. It is a warfare. You are a target. The enemy’s pri-
mary weapon is deception and deceit. Your primary

Paul’s Armament List
Paul’s detailed description of the armor may stem
from being chained to a Roman soldier while in prison
awaiting trial (Acts 28:16, 20). Actually, the Holy
Spirit is consistent in His use of idioms: these same ele-
ments are alluded to in the Old Testament (cf. Isaiah
59:16,17).

truth, and having on the breastplate of righteousness;
“What is Truth?” the famed Roman procurator asked
cynically. Truth is our most precious treasure to be cov-
eted. Truth is the key to success, fulfillment, victory, or
achieving any worthwhile goal. The pursuit of truth is
our greatest challenge in any of our endeavors.
“...having your loins girt about with truth”: The Ro-
man belt was 6-8 inches wide; all the body armor and
weapons were attached to it. Definition of truth: when
the Word and Deed become one. The ultimate truth is
the fulfillment of God’s promises in His Messiah (Jn
14:6). It was prophesied of Christ that righteousness
should be the girdle of his loins and faithfulness the
girdle of his reins (Isa 11:5).
“...having on the breastplate of righteousness”: What
is your most important stewardship? Your heart! The
Roman breastplate was bronze, backed with leather—it
secured the vitals. The breastplate covered the heart.
(Rom 6:13; 14:17; Isa 59:17; James 4:7). A blow through
this was usually decisive.

15] And your feet shod with the preparation of the gospel
of peace;
Shoes, or greaves (often of brass or the like), were part
of the military armor. The use of them was to defend
the feet against the gall-traps, and obstructions (cf. 1
Sam 17:6). And when you are fighting with swords,
your first slip is usually your last! Preparation is the
prerequisite to success in any endeavor.
16] Above all, taking the shield of faith, wherewith ye shall
be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked.
The Roman shield was 4 ft. x 2½ ft., overlaid with
linen and leather to absorb fiery arrows. The integrity
of the shield was essential. The time to plug any holes
was before the battle. Diligence was the key to proper
maintenance.
17] And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of
the Spirit, which is the Word of God:
The helmet provided protection for the head. The be-
liever knows ultimate victory is sure. This assurance is
a crucial blessing. One of the most important aspects of
our defense against Satan’s most vicious attacks is our
firm faith in eternal security—sealed and guaranteed
by the Holy Spirit.
...nevertheless I am not ashamed: for I know
whom I have believed, and am persuaded that
he is able to keep that which I have committed
unto him against that day.
2 Timothy 1:12
“...and the sword of the Spirit, which is the Word of
God”: The Roman machira: only 24 in. long, sharpened
on both sides. With this revolutionary innovation, they
achieved legendary victories. However, it required
special training and extensive practice! Christ em-
ployed this Sword three times when tempted by the

devil (Mt 4:1-11). Being hid in the heart (Ps 119:11),
God’s Word will preserve from sin, and will mortify and
kill those lusts and corruptions which are latent there.
The Heavy Artillery
One of the most important factors in a military engage-
ment is proper ground support: interdiction, flanking
fire, and direct assaults. This goes beyond personal
armor…a form of trans-dimensional communication!
Now we focus on the heavy artillery—with action-at-a-
distance—prayer! You can minister in a foreign country
without leaving your bedroom or prayer closet (…and
we covet your prayers!). Trans-dimensional commu-
nication is usually half-duplex: your petition appears
self-initiated; your reply will be anticipated in your
(daily) study of the Word…
18] Praying always with all prayer and supplication in
the Spirit, and watching thereunto with all persever-
ance and supplication for all saints;
As with any supporting fire, coordination is vital! We
all need to be supported by Prayer Warriors. In the
Greek, “all” occurs four times in this verse. Continual,
not sporadic: Like reliable soldiers, we are to be keep-
ing diligent, literally, “in all persistence.” Habitual:
public & private
deliberate & spontaneous
supplication & intercession
confession & humiliation
praise & thanksgiving
19] And for me, that utterance may be given unto me,
that I may open my mouth boldly, to make known
the mystery of the gospel,
20] For which I am an ambassador in bonds: that therein
I may speak boldly, as I ought to speak.

 This recalls Paul’s lengthy discussion of this “mystery
of the gospel” (Eph 2:11-3:11). For this reason Paul was
an ambassador in bonds (Acts 28:16, 20; Eph 3:1; 4:1;
Phil 1:7, 13-14, 16; Col 4:3, 18; Phile 1, 9-10, 13).
“...ambassador”: “taking the name of the King…” Cf.
the 3rd Commandment (Ex 20:7).
Your Challenge
We are being plunged into a period of time about
which the Bible says more than it does about any
other period of time in history...
1) Find out what the Bible says. This is not to be del-
egated to others (Mt 5:17). Take advantage of our
unique environment of today—advanced information
appliances, Internet resources, and the role of small
groups
2) Find out what is really going on in the world: “What
is truth?” We live in the Age of Deceit…
Hermeneutical Depth of the Bible
(“Planck’s Law of Hermeneutica”)
• Integrity of design.
• Relevance of details.
• Relevance of underlying structure, architecture,
patterns…“Every yot and title”: a call to precision
(Mt 5:17,18), “even the spaces between the letters”!
Some textual properties evaporate if a single letter
is changed.
• No real synonyms: treasures often hidden in the
“almost” of ostensible sameness; exploitation of puns,
et al.
• Allegories are illustrative; not doctrinally reliable
individually; (a license to invent…).

Recap
The Metacosm is the actual reality (our perceived
reality is only a virtual one). We are in the midst of a
