A Short Analysis of 'Have You Seen The Rain'
A Short Analysis of 'Have You Seen The Rain'
Yeah
I wanna know, have you ever seen the rain?
I wanna know, have you ever seen the rain
Comin' down on a sunny day?
Analysis:
This lyric is full of imagery: ‘calm’, ‘stone’, ‘sunny day’ and so on.
Without necessary explanation. It makes me hard to catch the point of
the lyric. I think if I want to create a sky, I must stand on the ground. If
I stand on the sky to create another sky, everything will be confusing.
Then the sense of jumping is very strong in the lyric. Especially
between the verse and chorus, there is only a weak connection. But it
reminds me of Queen’s ‘We Are The Champions’. It also gave me a
deep impression of jumping between the verse and chorus.
What the lyrics I look for are which always have a beginning, a text
and an ending(chorus), or narration and discussion goes together. For
example, 'Tell Laura I Lover Her', 'Rocket Man', 'Summer Kiss Winter
Tears', 'Imagination' and so on.
But in some ways, this lyric is good enough. First, the pronunciations
in the lyric suit the music a lot. Second, if the writer wanted to remind
or warm the world, it did. (According to wikipedia, Mark Deming
suggests that the song is about the idealism of the 1960s and about how
it faded in the wake of events.)
But in my opinion, it's not a good one for literature seriously.
Although I wrote like this, I'm not sure I'm right. I have three guesses:
One, I'm right. Two, in western world, this kind of lyrics is a good one,
because there is a function happens: the singer can tell his feeling in a
shorter time. Three, it's a form of lyrics just I haven't known. Maybe I
can't feel it's great because my English is not good enough to enjoy it.
