In September 1659 I leave Brazil for Africa with ten

other men. It is very hot and the weather is good. But
after twelve days there is a great storm. The sea plays
with me for a very long time. It leaves me on the beach.
I am very tired and ill. Where are all the other men?
I don’t know.
The sea is quiet now. I’ve got nothing with me – no
food, no tools, no gun or knife. I swim to the ship and
find many important things there: food and drink, guns,
pens and paper, money, clothes, knives, books. I make a
small boat and make eleven journeys between the beach
and the ship. Then the storms start again and I stay
on land.
The wind and rain are strong all night. The next
morning I can’t see the ship. It is under the sea, with my
ten friends.

My favourite holiday
Hello! My name is Matvii. I live in Kyiv. People celebrate many
different holidays in Ukraine. We paint Easter eggs at Easter,
decorate fir trees on New Year’s Day, prepare gifts for women
on Women's and Mother’s Day, and cook twelve dishes at
Christmas.

There is one
more holiday in
Ukraine which
my family and
I really like.
This is Family Day. I like this holiday because all members
of my family get together and have lots of fun. Family Day is
a popular holiday in Ukraine. People celebrate this holiday
on the 8th of July.

My family and I usually go to the park and have a picnic. We

often play football and badminton. This is the day when we
talk, laugh and have the most positive emotions.
There are so many exciting outdoor festivals to choose from
on Family Day. People can listen to different singers, bands,
take part in competitions and win many prizes.
I think that it is very important for all members of every family
to meet together and have fun. The more time we spend
together, the happier we become.
