Project Area K& A I& Total

C A

Table of contents Table of contents accurately links pages to 1 1

content

Ensure that Table of Contents reflects the

topics in SBA guidelines (Statement of
Topic, Objectives, Background/Overview,
Methodology etc.) and is aligned to pages
in SBA. For example the page number
listed in the Table of Contents for
Methodology must be the same page
number within the SBA.

Topic/Issue/Problem Topic/issue/problem is clearly stated 1

There must be a clear statement about

what the SBA is about.

Topic/issue/problem accurately describes 1

the project

The SBA topic must be reflected within the

contents/body of the SBA.
Total 2

Objectives Objectives are clearly stated and linked to 1

the topic/issue/problem

At least one Objective must be presented

and it must be clearly stated and cover the
SBA. The research conducted must be
based on the stated objectives.

Depending on which CSEC subject the

first Objective is based on, the students
should be registered for that Business
subject and then have the mark
transferred to the other Business subjects.
For example, if the first objective stated is

1
a POB objective, then register the student
for POB and have the SBA mark
transferred to the other Business subjects
pursued by the student.

Objectives are realistic 1

The student must be able to do research

on the SBA presented for it to be realistic.

Total 2

Background/Overview Includes a description of the 1

topic/issue/problem
- Description includes the history

The topic/ issue /problem must be

adequately described.
Description includes the development 1

The problem must be developed.

Establishes the need for research 1
- Why/how is the topic/issue/problem
important to student

The student must justify why the SBA is

important to him/her.
Impact of topic/issue/problem on society 1

The impact of the topic/issue/problem on

society must be adequately described.
The description must show how the
topic/issue/problem affects the lives of not
just the student but people in society as
well.

Methodology Data collection instrument clearly 2

described

The instrument used must be clearly

identified.

Details on instrument are needed for

example:

2
1. The number of questions asked
2. The type of questions asked.

Data collection instrument appropriate for 1

type of data.

Determine whether the instrument is

appropriate to collect data for the SBA
topic based on the research conducted.
Included at least two instruments of data 1
collection

The instruments used must be appropriate

and can collect the required data.
Method of data collection clearly 2
described

The process of data collection is critical

here. The following should be discussed:

1. Is the population identified?

2. How was the sample selected and
who comprised such?
3. Where was the data collected?
4. When was the data collected?
5. How long did the process take?
6. How was the data collected?

Method of data collection adequately 2

justified

To justify the method of data collection,

include the reasons for:

1. selecting sample.
2. selecting instrument.
3. using a particular instrument or
combination of instruments
(advantages of the method).

Limitations of data collection method 2

clearly stated

3
The limitations can include but are not
restricted to:

1. Disadvantages of the instrument.

2. Lack of access to personnel
3. Lack of access to required
documentation
4. No response from important
personnel
5. Lack of access to devices for
virtual contact with persons.
6. National restrictions which
impeded data collection

Presentation and Data is presented in an appropriate form 2

Analysis of Data using tables, charts, graphs

At least two graphs should be used. All

diagrams must be presented with brief
descriptions. All graphs should be
labelled. Both quantitative data and
qualitative data can be presented.

Data presented are relevant to the 2

objectives of the project

The data presented must reflect the

objectives of the study and the questions
asked in the data collection instrument.
Data is adequately analysed 2

The data collected must be discussed in

light of the research objectives. The
student must indicate what the data is
saying and how that relates to other
research.

Data is analysed using appropriate 2

statistics – mean, median, mode

Analysis of the data collected must

include some qualitative or quantitative

4
data. Use ratios, averages, text etc.

Findings are consistent with analyses 2

At least two findings that reveal what the

data is showing.

Total 10

Conclusion Conclusion succinctly summarises the 2

project

A brief statement indicating what the

project or research was about and how it
is linked to the findings. It should include
the Topic/Issue/Problem and the findings
of the data collected.

Conclusion is logical and based on 2

findings

Conclusion must be based on data

discussion and supported by findings.
Total 4

Recommendation Recommendations are realistic and 2

informed by findings

At least two recommendations must be

given. These must be based on the
findings.

Recommendations contribute to a better 2

understanding of the topic/issue/problem
Total 4

Bibliography Bibliography contains names of authors, 1 1

name of publisher(s), names and dates of
publication, and are written in alphabetical
order

All research material must be referenced.

This can include a website, a book,
