Grace Padaca

Maria Gracia Cielo "Grace" Magno Padaca is a Filipino politician and former journalist who served as
governor of Isabela from 2004 until 2010. She is also the recipient of the Ramon Magsaysay Award for
Public Service in 2008. During her childhood, she survived polio; she has walked with crutches for most
of her life.During her childhood she suffered from polio which has forced her to walk with crutches for
most of her life. Poliomyelitis (polio), or infantile paralysis, is a viral paralytic disease. Among Filipino
politicians she is among the minority who are not from politically connected families. Her success has
largely been attributed to her support from the Catholic Church and her fame as a radio commentator
on radio station Bombo Radyo in Cauayan.

2. Fatima Soriano

Blind-at-birth Fatima Soriano from the Philippines was only 9 years old when her kidneys stopped
functioning. Even then, it was clear to her that she was born for a purpose. The young girl believes on a
higher being that is in control of all life, someone bigger than her current circumstance or the challenges
she will ever face.

Seemingly providential, it was when she was suffering from her kidney disease that opportunities to
fulfill what would eventually be her life’s mission opened up for her. One night, when she phoned-in
through an inspirational radio show she liked listening to as she waited for her late night dialysis session,
the wisdom of Fatima was first heard on-air. The message of hope by the young blind woman now
reaches and inspires many through radio, television and personal appearances. Over the past years, she
made a name for herself as a recording artist cum composer of religious songs, a national radio show
host, a motivational speaker, and there are also accounts she has the gift of healing. She has received
various awards for her work, the most especial for her was the highest award given by the Catholic
Church.

3. Raymond Martin

Raymond Martin was born with Arthrogryposis, which gave him impairment in all four of his limbs.
Martin has dominated the T52 class in recent years, after racing in to the spotlight in London 2012 with
four gold medals from four events.Having won two gold and two silver medals at the 2011 Parapan
American Games aged just 17, his natural ability was evident.

In July 2012, one month before the start of the London Games, Martin smashed the 200m T52 world
record, recording a time of 30.18 – he went on to win Paralympic gold in the 100m, 200m, 400m and
800m.

At the 2013 IPC Athletics World Championships in Lyon, France, Martin became the first athlete to
win five gold medals from five events, claiming titles in all distances from the 100m through to the
1,500m. In four out of five races he also broke the Championship record. With no major events for the
American in 2014, Martin still managed to lower his own 200m world

record to 30.07.
Martin’s winning ways continued in 2015, starting with a world gold medal at the IPC Athletics
Marathon World Championships, which took place at the Virgin London Marathon in April. Two months
later at a meeting in Arbon, Switzerland, Martin rewrote the history books once again with new world
records in the 100m, 400m and 1,500m. At the Parapan Am Games in August Martin won a hat trick of
gold medals – victorious in the 100m, 400m and 1,500m. Martin won the 100m and 1,500m before
heading back to the USA to race at the New York marathon, and join his father’s 50th birthday
celebrations. He finished the year ranked world number one in the 100m, 400m, 800m and 1,500m and
will undoubtedly be a heavy favorite at the Rio Paralympics. Raymond currently attends the University
of Illinois on an athletic scholarship and hopes to attend medical school in Portland or Seattle after
undergrad.

illness. The wisdom of Fatima was first heard on the air one evening when she called in via an
inspirational radio show she enjoyed listening to while she waited for her late-night dialysis
appointment. Through radio, television, and personal appearances, the young blind woman's message
of hope now inspires and touches a large number of people. She gained notoriety in the previous years
as a recording artist and composer of religious songs, a motivational speaker, host of a national radio
program, and according to some accounts, she also possesses the gift of healing. Although she has won
several accolades for her efforts, the Catholic Church's highest honor was particularly noteworthy for
her.
