This story about an autistic schoolboy, who is brought onto the basketball court as a last-minute substitute and

becomes a national hero.

Jason has autism, a condition that makes communicating, socialising and reading really difficult. However, that didn’t
prevent him from becoming a manager of basketball team. Jason’s autism had always stopped him from actually
playing for the team. But on the evening “Senior Night” game the team’s coach J-Mac, give him a shirt with number
52 and told him he would let him play in the all-important game at some point.

In the final few minutes Jason was sent onto the court. His teammates passed him the ball and Jason scored 7
baskets, scoring five points a minute and breaking school records. Athena beat their opponents by a wide margin. His
teammates were very happy and surprised.

Jason’s sporting achievement was filmed and by the evening a video had already gone viral. Thanks to this Jason
quickly became famous around the country.

Since 2006 Jason has graduated from high school and found part-time work with a well-known food store.

Also he wrote a book, which was published in 2008 and now travels across the USA doing his charity work.

In September 2012 he completed his first marathon in 15th place. Jason admits that he hasn’t been playing as much
basketball but occasionally he’ll go and shoot baskets.
