STRENGHT, WAEKNESS, OPPORTUNITY AND THREAT OF PREVENTION AND CONTROL OF

COVID-19 IN CHINA

This is the use of strength(s), and weakness, of Chinese government in control and prevention of the
unprecedented corona virus disease to analyze the possible threat to population health and opportunities
likely to emerge from these epidemics.

The outbreak of Pneumonia caused by a novel disease called corona virus started from Wugan, Hubei
Province in China and subsequently spread to other part of the world. It was temporary named by W.H.O
on 12th January, 2020 and reportedly announced on 31st January, 2020 (Zhu, 2020).

STRENGHT

1. According china yearbook, the amount of medical resource is increasing steadily. The gross domestic
product (GDP) of medical and health institutions is increasing including the number of bed spaces.

2. Comprehensive advancement of china health emergency system is seriously improving. In 2003, the
epidemics of SARS has its major effects as a result of lack of health emergency system in china, but the
authoritarian government responded by establishing it which is helping in management of Corona virus
disease (Xu, 2019).

WEAKNESS ANALYSIS

Within a very short period, the viral infection spread to 34 provinces in china and steadily spreading to
many countries within one month of the outbreak (Jia and Zhifeng, 2020).

This was as a result the delay in releasing of information about the information by the authoritarian
government of china.

The Epidemic coincide with Chinese festival making is difficult to stop movement of transportation,
thereby continue the transportation of the infection.

China is country with very large land mass and population of 1.3billion, which makes it difficult to
control and prevent the spread of the disease.

The number of relief materials and human resources available in Wuhan was not equal to the number of
individuals. The health emergency discipline is underdeveloped, Chinese government focused on Public
health affairs leaving the gap in emergency department.

Rumor is also another weakness that has created chaos in the population. Many people have been
deceived that intake of too much alcohol, and some medicinal plants such as Isatis Indigotica can cure
coronavirus disease ( Jia and Zhifeng, 2020).

STRENGHT OPPORTUNITIES

The epidemics of corona virus have created a continuous reshaping of health emergency system. It has
created the people oriented and value policy orientation which has made people to manage resources
appropriately, and also integrated, strengthened the health emergency and information system.
WEAKNESS OPPORTUNITIES

There are few universities in china which undertake public health courses; this will serve as a catalyst to
create health emergency and health information departments in all the universities. It will formulate
health emergency and surveillance response to infection diseases and improve health information in the
country.

STRENGHT-THREAT

Authoritarian government delay in releasing information which enhances the spreading, hence there
should be immediate release of important information ta the time of any outbreak.

It is important to enhance research institutions and stop accumulation of research which may be necessary
for understanding any epidemics.

WEAKNESS-THREAT

It is very important to strengthen the public psychological intervention in responding to public health
emergencies..
