The document discusses the evolution of woolly mammoths from steppe mammoths during the ice age. It explains that steppe mammoths had less fur and smaller tusks, making them less able to survive the cold climate and find food under ice and snow, causing their population to decrease while the woolly mammoth population increased due to their adaptations.

Before the wooly mammoths evolved from steppe mammoths it made a small percentage of the
mammoth population, when the ice age came steppe mammoths, who had less fur couldn’t bear the
cold so this was the first reason for them dying the wooly mammoths had denser more thick fur which
allowed them to bear the cold. That made the wooly mammoths slowly start to increase in numbers as
they reproduced after mating which increase the numbers of the wooly mammoths and even if they
survived they wouldn’t have found food covered by ice and snow since they had smaller tusks this also
decreased their numbers meaning more wooly mammoth reproduction.
