Synthesis

Society in the United States is marked by deep racial divisions that date back to
slavery, segregation and other forms of historical discrimination. While progress has
been made in addressing racial discrimination over the decades, many racial
disparities persist in education, employment, housing and criminal justice. Police
violence in the United States is a problem deeply rooted in the country’s history and
culture. But how can we fight to stop those police violence in the US ?
We will first start to understand the roots of this problem and how big it is, then we will
see how people try to fight against it.

Racism in the United States is a major factor in police violence. Deep racial
prejudices and stereotypes persist in many institutions, especially among law
enforcement agencies. This leads to disproportionate discrimination and violence
against ethnic minorities, particularly black Americans. As Trevor Noah said in his
video about the social contract in 2020, “the police in America are looting black bodies”.
And even if that this is hard to ear, this is true. Black Americans people have to survive
in a society that kill them. The woman in the video “how can we win” published by
David Jones Media in 2020, said it well : “economic was the reason that black people
were brought to this country”. She explains that there’s no opportunity for black people
to built something because of their slavery past. This is why the BLM movement was
created, to response to police brutality and systemic racial injustice. As Chris Webber
explained in August 2020, maybe “nothing is gonna change but it don’t mean to not do
anything”.

To fight against that unfair system, black people try to change many things in
many ways. Firstly, the Black Lives Matter movement who was founded in 2013 after
the murderer of Trayvon Martin, a black teenager. Since then, the BLM movement has
been at the center of many protests, especially after the death of George Floyd in 2020.
In fact, as Trever Noah said : “we were watching someone being murder by someone
who his here is to protect and serve”, talking about the video of George Floyd’s murder.
This was the first time that a police violence was recorded and that everyone at this
moment, have condemned what they saw. It was a big step forward because everyone
realized that there is a huge problem. Moreover, people have to keep in mind that even
if it seems that we can’t change things, we should to try. As Chris Webber said, “you
have to be smart and you have to make sure that you have a plan” to fight against this
injustice. Finally Trever Noah defined what a Society is. He said that it’s a “contract
that we sign as human being among each other”. He added that “we agree in common
rules and common ideals”, but what vested interest do black people have in
maintaining the contract ? As the woman said in the video “how can we win”, they can’t
own anything. And because their rights are absolutely not respected, they haven’t the
obligation to respect those “common rules” agreed.

To conclude, to stop police violence in the US, it is essential to address the deep
roots of the problem, which is the strong presence of racism in law enforcement. We
also need a commitment from society to ensure balance and respect for the rights of
every citizen. And even if the BLM movement and all the speech done, had change a
little people’s minds, this is not enough.
