1. General
This desk assessment is an analysis of the mining business license (IUP) Production of PT
Tambang Mineral Maju. This location is approximately ± 401 kilometers from Haluoleo Airport,
Kendari City in North direction with a travel time of ± 9 hours by car (Figure 1).
Administratively location of PT Tambang Mineral Maju IUP’s is located at Tolala District, North
Kolaka Regency, Southeast Sulawesi Province.

PT Tambang Mineral Maju based on North Kolaka Regent Decree 540/7 Tahun 2013, dated on
January 8th, 2013 and end date on January 8th, 2023. Production Operation Permit Area is 61 Ha
and has been Clean & Clear.

2. Forestry Status
Based on Usage and Function of Forest Area and Forest Area Designation Map of Southeast
Sulawesi Province in January 2017, The Forestry Status of PT. Tambang Mineral Maju is as
follows:
Table 1. Forestry Status of PT Sumberjati Pratama Selatan’s IUP

Forestry Status Area (ha) %

Limited Production Forrest (HPT) 35 57
Another Usage Area (APL) 26 43
Total 61 100

3. Regional Geology
Based on regional geological map of The Malili Quadrangle, Sulawesi with scale 1: 250,000 (T.O.
Simandjuntak ,E. Rusmana, Surono and J.B. Supandjono 1991). PT. Tambang Mineral Maju IUP’s
is on Ultrabasic Complex (MTosu).
The Ultrabasic Complex is composed of Harzburgite. lherzolite, wehrlite, websterite,
serpentinite, dunite, gabbro and diabas. The Ultrabasic Complex Covers 61 Ha (100%) of
IUP Area

4. Slope Analysis
Based on slope analysis - Van Zuidam (1983), in general landform (morphology), PT Tambang
Mineral Maju’s IUP has 43,6 Ha (71,4%) area with slope range from 0° to 16° spreading
throughout the area consisting of hill and hillside area, and 6,7 Ha (11%) area with slope range
from 16° to 20° spreading throughout the area consisting of hillside area. (Figure 4).

Flat to moderate region on lowland with slope range from 0° to 16° allows laterite nickel
deposit enrichment if the lithology is composed of ultramafic rocks and the saprolite layer is
thin. Moderate to steep region on hill with slope range from 16° to 20° allows the field
occurrence of ultramafic rock and generally has an eratic ore.

5. PROSPECTS Geology and Mineralization
Bedrock ore is peridotite rock. Average ultramafic rocks has a nickel content of 0.2%. The nickel
element contained in the crystal lattice of minerals olivine and pyroxene, as a result of
substitution for Fe and Mg atoms. The process of substitution among Ni, Fe, and Mg may be
explained because the radius of ions and ion charge almost the same between these elements.
Serpentinisation process that occurs in peridotite rocks under the influence of hydrothermal
solutions, will transform into a peridotite rock or rock serpentinite, serpentinite rock peridotite.
While the chemical and physical processes of air, water and heat turn cold that work continue,
leading to disintegration and decomposition of the parent rock.
In particular chemical weathering, groundwater rich in CO 2 from the air and decaying plants
decompose minerals unstable (olivine and pyroxene) in ultramafic rocks, producing Ni, Fe, Mg
dissolved. Si tends to form colloidal silica particles are very fine. In solution, Fe is oxidized and
precipitated as ferry-hydroxide, eventually forming minerals such as goethite, limonite and
hematite near the surface. Together these minerals are always participate cobalt elements in
small amounts.

Figure 5.laterite profile in general

Neutral due to their contact with the soil and rocks, there is a tendency to form a precipitate
hydro silicate. Nickel contained in silicate chains or hydro silicate whose composition may vary
will settle in the cracks or fractures known as garnieritevein and onyx. While the residue
solution to form a compound called saprolite brown reddish yellow. Other elements such as Ca
and Mg dissolved as bicarbonate will be brought down to the extent of weathering and will be
precipitated as dolomite, magnesite, which is used to fill the cracks or fractures-fractures in the
host rock. Vein is known as the boundary between the zone of weathering pointer with fresh
rock zone called weathering root (root of weathering)
6. Area Utilization
Based on 3D Google Earth’s Satellite Map 2019, The Utilization Status of PT Tambang Mineral
Maju is as follows:
