PROJECT PROPOSAL ON TOPOGRAPHICAL SURVEYING OF BISHOP

NTAMBURI PRIMARY SCHOOL
INTRODUCTION
Topographic surveying is the process of determining position, both on plane and elevation of
natural and manmade features of an area.
This survey provides essential information about the elevation, location, and characteristics of
natural and manmade features on the earth.
Topographic survey focus on the measuring and mapping the varying elevations across the
survey area. RTK is the instrument that I will use to collect elevation data points on the area of
study that is Bishop Nthamburi primary school
Bishop Nthanburi primary school is a thriving educational institution that serves its students and
community with excellence. However, the lack of accurate and up to date topographic survey
data for the school premises poses challenges and limitation in terms safety, infrastructure,
development and environmental considerations.
PROBLEM STATEMENT

 Infrastructure planning: without precise topographic data, it a challenging to plan and

design infrastructure improvements such as new building, walkways or sports facilities.
This lack of information may result in suboptimal construction decisions.
 Drainage issues: accurate topographic data is critical for designing effective drainage
systems. Incomplete data of topography can lead to water accumulation, flooding or
erosion affecting the integrity of the school property.
 Environment impact assessment: Bishop Nthamburi primary school is committed to
environmental responsibility. Incomplete topographic data hinders the school’s ability to
assess the environmental impact of construction of renovations, potential harming local
ecosystems.
 Regulatory compliance: ensuring compliance with local building codes, safety
regulations and environmental laws is vital for the school. Inadequate topographic data
can lead to regulatory non- compliance or costly project delays.
OBJECTIVES
General
I. It is to address the challenges posed by the absence of accurate topographical data for
Bishop Nthamburi primary school.
Specific
 II. To come up with a topographic map for Bishop Nthamburi primary school.
III. To provide essential data to enhance safety, infrastructure development and environment
stewardship.
JUSTIFICATION
To resolve these challenges in Bishop Nthamburi primary school I propose to initiate a
topographic surveying project for its entire school.
The project will involve the use of modern surveying technologies including RTK and
geographic information system for data for data processing and mapping.
SCOPE OF WORK
The topographic survey will cover the entail area of Bishop Nthamburi primary school.
a. Environmental awareness: it will raise environmental awareness by showing students
how landscapes are shaped and the impact of human activities on topography.
b. Safety planning: carrying out topographic surveying in Bishop Nthamburi primary
school will help in coming up with topographic data that will help in identify potential
flood prone areas or hazards on the school contributing to safety planning.
c. Career opportunities: introducing topographic surveying in Bishop Nthamburi primary
school can spark students’ interest in careers related to geography, geospatial technology
and land surveying.
