1. Two Turbo Generators each of capacity 25000 KW have been installed at a hydel power plant. During certain period
the load on the hydel plant varies from 15000 KW to 40000 KW. Determine:
a. The total installed capacity b. The load factors
c. The plant factor or capacity factor d. The utilization factors
2. A power station supplies the following loads to the consumer as given below:

i) Draw the load curve load factor for the plant


ii) What is the load factor of a stand by equipment of 30 MW capacities if it is taken up all loads above the 70 MW?
What is the plant factor and plant use factor of the Standby equipment?
3. The average weekly discharge as measured at a given site is as follows:

(a) Plot

(i) The hydrograph of weekly flow.

(ii) The flow-duration curve.

(iii) The power-duration curve if the head available is 50 m and the efficiency of the plant set is 85%.

(b) Determine the power that can be developed per m3, the maximum power, average power, and total energy produced
during 26 weeks.

4. Average daily flows in a river in a typical low water week are given below. A run-of-river hydropower plant is
proposed on this river to operate 6 days in a week round the clock. The full pond effective head on turbines is 20
m and the plant efficiency is 80%. Maximum allowable fluctuation of pond level is 1 m. Determine:
(i) The capacity of the pond required to give a maximum uniform output;
(ii) The weekly energy output (kWh) from the plant.

5. From the following table of the mean monthly discharge for 12 months of a river flow at a site,
a. Draw the hydrograph and find the average monthly flow and the power available at mean flow of
water for head 90m and overall efficiency of generation 90%. Assume 30 days in each month.
b. Draw the flow duration curve from the data in the hydrograph.

6. Mean monthly and yearly discharge (m3/s) at intake site in a river for 24 years are given in the table below. If the
available net head is 40 m and total efficiency (η) is 0.85. The Design discharge is Q40 and minimum release at
downstream to maintain ecosystem is 0.1 m3/s.
I. Draw Power Duration Curve and show the firm power in the graph
II. Draw Flow Duration Curve and show the flow available through the year
III. Determine the mean monthly flow that can be expected and the average power that can be Developed
IV. Calculate the minimum volume of the water that needed to be stored in pondage if the firm power is needed to
increase corresponding to the 0.76 m3/s flow.

7. The following Table gives the mean monthly flows of a stream during a leap year. Determine the
minimum storage required to satisfy a demand (inclusive of losses) rate of 50m3/s by using mass curve
and analytical methods.

8. The following table gives the monthly inflows during a critical low water period at a site of a
proposed dam, the corresponding monthly evaporation and precipitation at a nearby station, and
the estimated monthly demand of water. Prior water rights require a release of full natural flow
or 6.5 hectare-meter per month, whichever is less. Assume that 30 percent of the rainfall on the
land area to be flooded by the reservoir has reached the stream in the past. Using a net increased
pool area of 520 hectares, find the required useful storage. Take pan evaporation coefficient
equal to 0.7.
