Assessment Task:
Step1: Practical component (in groups)
Step 2: Written report (individual)
a) Explain how you used the map to plan your route on the last day of the assessment? (A) ;
b) Describe what you could see at each of the control points, such as the terrain etc (refer to the
cones) (A)
c) Reflect on whether you would change your route next time, and why; (C)
d) Reflect on how well your team worked together, include what worked well and what you could
improve on next time; (C)
e) How did you use and apply the information you learnt in I&S, and the information that you
learnt in PHE when completing this task. (B)

Step 3: PHE Specific (individual) – Criterion A – Knowing and Understanding


a) What are the hazards and risks in orienteering that you need to consider when planning your
route and moving between control points (consider terrain, weather and injuries).
b) Discuss how orienteering helps develop environmental awareness and “being at one with
nature”, in your discussion you should include different environmental aspects of orienteering
such as the disturbance of birds, plants and waste.
