Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC)

1. Introduction

Ajay Kumar Garg Engineering College (AKGEC), Ghaziabad, Uttar Pradesh is approved by
AICTE and affiliated to Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam Technical University, Lucknow. The college,
established in 1998, has six Engineering Departments offering B. Tech. programs in twelve
disciplines. The college also offers postgraduate programs in Computer Application (MCA) and
M. Tech. in four disciplines. All five major B. Tech. programs are accredited by NBA. The college
strives for excellence and has been consistently maintaining excellent academic results and
placements. Spread over 40-acre campus, AKGEC has excellent infrastructure with well-planned
complexes for each department having spacious laboratories, class rooms equipped with state-of-
the-art teaching aids, department libraries and faculty cabins.

The college has the distinction of being the first and only college in UP to receive the Academic
Excellence Award for the Best Engineering College in UPTU (now AKTU) from H.E. the
Governor of UP for two successive years. The college has been consistently having a large number
of students in university merit lists. The College students have the honor of being awarded the
Chancellor's Medal for the highest marks across all B. Tech. programs for five consecutive years
since the inception of this Award in 2016.

In addition to academic excellence, the college has been emphasizing on collaboration with
industries to groom the students for meeting the industry standards. The college has established a
number of Centres of Excellence in collaboration with eminent multinational industries. The
primary objective of these centres is to provide industry relevant training in inter-disciplinary state-
of-art technologies as well as to promote applied research and industrial consultancy. AKGEC is
the only Institution in Uttar Pradesh to have received approval from DST, Government of India,
for establishment of Center of Relevance and Excellence (CORE) in the field of Industrial
Automation and Robotics. The program envisages a unique partnership between AKGEC and nine
international industries to promote research, consultancy, project development and training in the
emerging technological field of Automation and Robotics.

The college has established a NSDC approved and funded Skill development center and also a
NABL accredited Measurement and Metrology Centre. The college takes proud for being the only
Institution in Uttar Pradesh to receive approval for establishment of the Common Facility Center
for general engineering industry under One District One Product (ODOP) scheme of the
Government of Uttar Pradesh.
2. Vision

To introduce undergraduate and postgraduate courses for all engineering branches and award of
Ph.D degree. To be one of the best engineering colleges in the country and to be a deemed
university.

3. Mission

We strive to provide and maintain academic environment and systems, enabling maximum
learning to produce competent professionals. We also aim at achieving this through transparent
academic and administrative policies in the college. We intend to provide conducive atmosphere
for research, development and consultancy services to our faculty at national and international
level.

4. Quality Policy

To provide and continually improve academic environment and systems which give total
satisfaction and enable students to develop their full potential and mature into competent
professionals and responsible members of society.

5. Core Values

6. Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC)

To take AKGEC to the next level, the Internal Quality Assurance Cell exists to engrain an internal
quality culture in teaching-learning, research, students’ development and progression, innovations
and all other academic and administrative operations. The primary objective of IQAC shall be
quality sustenance, quality enhancement and quality initiatives so that it acts as a catalyst for
continuous improvement in the overall performance of the institution.

Following are the objectives, strategies and functions of the IQAC:

a) Objectives

• To develop a system for conscious, consistent and catalytic action to improve the academic
and administrative performance of the institution.

• To promote measures for institutional functioning towards quality enhancement through


internalization of quality culture and institutionalization of best practices.

b) Strategies

IQAC shall evolve mechanisms and procedures for

• Ensuring timely, efficient and progressive performance of academic, administrative and


financial tasks.

• The relevance and quality of academic and research programs.

• Equitable access to and affordability of academic programs for various sections of society.

• Optimization and integration of modern methods of teaching and learning.

• The credibility of evaluation procedures.

• Ensuring the adequacy, maintenance and proper allocation of support structure and services.

• Sharing of research findings and networking with other institutions in India and abroad.
c) Functions of IQAC

The primary task of IQAC is to ensure and enhance the quality of education and the overall
functioning of the institution. Here are the key tasks and responsibilities of an IQAC:
• Quality Assurance: The central role of IQAC is to develop and implement quality
assurance processes to maintain and enhance the quality of education and related activities
within the institution.
• Accreditation and Assessment: IQAC has a crucial role in preparing the institution for
accreditation processes. It coordinates in gathering data and evidence required for various
accreditations.
• Continuous Improvement: IQAC monitors and evaluates the various academic and
administrative processes within the college, identifying areas that need improvement and
recommending necessary changes.
• Benchmarking: IQAC benchmarks the institution's performance against national and
international standards to identify areas where the institution can excel.
• Planning and Strategy: It assists in the development of long-term strategic and annual
action plans to achieve institutional goals related to quality education.
• Feedback and Grievance Handling: IQAC manages mechanisms for collecting feedback
from students, faculty and other stakeholders to address their concerns and grievances
related to quality.
• Faculty and Staff Development: It promotes the professional development of faculty and
staff by organizing workshops, training programs, and other activities.
• Research and Innovation: IQAC encourages and supports research and innovation within
the institution, aiming to improve academic and research standards.
• Documentation and Reporting: It maintains records of various quality-related activities
and prepares reports to share with internal and external stakeholders, including regulatory
bodies and accrediting agencies.
• Data Collection and Analysis: It collects and analyzes data related to student
performance, faculty productivity, institute infrastructure, research activities, and other
aspects of the institution to make informed decisions.
• Best Practices Dissemination: IQAC identifies and shares best practices within the
institution and with other institutions to facilitate continuous improvement.
• Stakeholder Engagement: IQAC engages with various stakeholders, such as students,
parents, alumni, and the community, to understand their needs and expectations and align
institutional efforts accordingly.
• Resource Mobilization: It assists in securing resources, both financial and infrastructural,
required to maintain and improve the quality of education.
• Preparation and submission of the AQAR: Annual Quality Assurance Report (AQAR)
is prepared & submitted to NAAC based on the quality parameters in each academic year
by the IQAC.
• Mentoring: IQAC establishes a support system for mentors and mentees, offering
resources, guidance, and avenues for addressing challenges.
• Audit procedures: IQAC performs Academic, Administration and Accounts audits at
institute level.
• Implementation of OBE/NEP: IQAC performs whole activities under NEP and awares
its stakeholders on the OBE & NEP-related transformation.
• Compliance: Ensuring compliance with various regulatory and statutory requirements in
the field of education.

d) IQAC Meetings

The IQAC meets at least once every quarter. The quorum for the meeting is maintained as two-
thirds of the total number of members. The agenda, minutes and Action Taken Reports are
documented with official signatures and maintained electronically in a retrievable format.
