DAY 1 / PEACE OF MIND

The mahagunas of sattva, rajas and tamas are the three


prime energies of the universe.

Sattva is the light of our consciousness and the truth of


who we are. It’s balance, harmony, serenity. Rajas is the
activity of life. It’s movement, motion, and action.
Tamas is the darkness of life - inertia, decay, and sleep.

While rajas and tamas are necessary for our human


experience, in excess they cause disturbance in the
mind and body. Then we experience a disconnection
from our higher self - the truth of who we really are.
From Yoga and Ayurveda we understand that this is the
basis of all illness and disease.

The key to healing is to increase sattva by choosing


experiences and food that bring peace and harmony.

Harmonize your cooking experience

1. Prepare your meal in a clean and peaceful kitchen with a


loving attitude.
2. Beautify your table. Choose pleasing tableware, soothing
lighting, and beautiful flowers.

Here's the first way your mind keeps you in bondage when
it comes to eating: compartmentalized thinking.

Compartmentalized thinking means taking a linear, symptom-


focused approach to health. It's looking at things in isolation,
without truly understanding the root cause.

You’re a holistic being. Your experience with food is not


separate from your emotions, your beliefs and how you
define yourself. What's happening in your body is deeply
linked to the patterns of your mind. Similarly, your Yoga
practice is not only for your mat, it’s for your life, including
how you eat.

To see life from a holistic perspective is to understand and


appreciate that everything affects everything else.

Time to stop putting things in boxes, step back and take in


the big picture. That's when real healing takes place.

Take a gentle walk after the meal and notice the beauty of
the environment. Take a photo of something beautiful in
nature & share it in the Facebook group. Tell us how you

Here's the second way your mind keeps you in bondage:


focusing on rules.

From an early age we are trained to follow the rules in


order to receive praise, acceptance and love. A
programmed drive to get it right leads to frustration and
stagnation.

Ayurveda isn’t about rules. It’s about principles and cause


and effect. Each action brings a result. Consider cause and
effect and make a choice about how you want to feel,
based on your personal experience.

This is a true mind-set shift, and it doesn't take place


overnight. But self-responsibility and self-awareness bring
freedom in your relationship with food, and yourself.

When cooking, shake it up! Experiment with how you chop


things - the size and shape will impact the taste. Then eat
your meal with your hand. Focus on experiencing the meal
with all 5 senses.

The third reason why your mind keeps you from


experiencing food freedom is because it's full of old
beliefs and impressions - known as samskaras.

Samskaras lead to habits and patterns of thought


(often formed in childhood) which will keep you stuck
in the old ways that aren't working. When you aren’t
aware of your samskaras, they run your life, and drive
you to make choices that hold you back from joyful
living.

The key thing to understand is that you get to decide


how to think. The mind is your tool, and you, beautiful
YOU, can learn how to make it work for you, not
against you, with Yoga and Ayurveda.

Before you begin eating, take 12 slow, purposeful breaths,


smile to yourself and set an intention for the meal.
