A. Prayer
Let’s all bow our heads and feel the holy presence
of our dear Lord as we start our class.
Ms. Patricia , please lead our prayer.
B. Greetings
Good day class!
How are you feeling today? Are you ready for our topic
today?

CONTINUOUS OR NOT
Directions: Given the graph below, determine if the
function H (x ) is continuous at the following values
of x :
1. x=2
2. x=−3
3. x=0
1. continuous
2. continuous
3. discontinuous because two points/graph
did not meet at x=0 .
B. Analysis
i. f ( c ) ∃;
iii. f ( c ) =lim f ( x )
x→ c
x →1 x →1
c. f ( 1 ) =0=lim f ( x )
x→1
c. f ( 0 )=1=lim f ( x )
x→0

x −x−2
EXAMPLE 7: Determine if f ( x )= is
x−2
continuous or not at x=2.
Solution:
Note that f is not defined at x=2since 2 is not in the
domain of f . Hence, the first condition in the definition
of a continuous function is not satisfied. Therefore, f is
discontinuous at x=2.
Solution:
Note that f is defined at x=4 since f ( 4 )=3. However,
lim ¿while lim ¿ . Therefore

x→ 4 f ( x ) =5¿ x→ 4 f ( x ) =3 ¿
lim f ( x ) DNE , and f is discontinuous at x=4.

C. Abstraction
Let us now summarize what we have learned in this
lesson.
What have you learned from our discussion today?
What can you say about continuity at point?
How can you determine of the function is continuous or
not?
Alright! I am pleased that you have all gained
knowledge and comprehended our lecture on continuity
at point.
D. Application
BOARD WORK!
Determine if the following functions are continuous at
the given value of x .
1. f ( x )=3 x 2 +2 x+1 at x=−2

2. f ( x )= at x=2
x−2
x
3. g ( x )= at x=8
√ 4−x
V. Evaluation
Answer the following in your yellow paper. Determine
if the following functions are continuous at the given
value of x . (5 points each)
1. f ( x )=9 x 2−1 at x=1
x−1
2. h ( x )= 2 at x=1
x −1
3. g ( x )=√ x−3 at x=4
{ −3 x if x >−2
2
1. f ( x )= 2+ x if x ≤−2 , , x=−2
2. g ( x )=
√ 4+ x 2−2 , x=0
