What is Energy Management ?

The strategy of adjusting and optimizing energy, using systems and procedures
so as to reduce energy requirements per unit of output while holding constant
or reducing total costs of producing the output from these systems

Do’s

Set up your space, make sure it’s quiet

and uninterrupted
you will want to set up a space that is, as much
as possible, free of distractions as possible and
that will be uninterrupted for the full duration of
your class session
Be punctual, log in on time
Being late is not acceptable, especially as
your commute is (probably) from your
bedroom to the couch in your living
room!

Abide by Project Deadlines

Pay attention to all the tutorial session without
fail, as each week sessions are aligned to
assignment deliverables.

14
Don’ts

Don’t get discouraged

Take walks, have a cup of coffee or tea break and schedule some
time in your day, every day, that is screen-free. Most of all, if you
feel discouraged, honor that for 10 minutes. Then get back to
work.

Ignore additional online Surfing during Lecture

It’s easy to always be continually surfing the internet, but you’ll
want to pay attention and not stray from the lecture content and
make sure you turn off notifications while you’re logged on and
“in class.”

Assignment Overview
• Students are required to work induvial for the Project which consists
of two components:
• Project Brief and Base Model
• Simulation Experiments and Recommendation
• Project Brief and Base Model:
• Required to identify the residential building in their locality and collect all the
relevant data related to base model with the help of architectural drawing,
indoor electrical end-use and comfort system data from the occupant.
• Based on their collected data, required to develop the base model using
AutoCAD floor plan drawing on eQuest Software.
• Simulation Experiments and Recommendation:
• Develop simulation experiments modifying the building envelope and electro-
mechanical and renewable energy system referring to ECO-NIWAS SAMHITA
code compliance.
• Based on their simulation experiments, students are required to provide
recommendation for the residential building retrofit based on the simulation
experiment of variable controls with cost-benefit analysis. 16
