1.Procedure of Identification of IP black-listing

First step is to find “which customer IP and what type of access is getting denied (mails, https, etc.) on Internet.”

Then identify which Internet NGO’s are black-listing the customer’s IP.

Please note we can only help in the cases where customer IPs are blacklisted due to mail spamming.

Step 1: Open a new browser window and go to https://mxtoolbox.com/

Step 2: Click on blacklists and put the blacklisted IP address then select blacklist check. In this example
115.241.227.58 is used as blacklisted IP.

In above example customer IP is listed in BARRACUDA and RATS NoPtr blacklists.

Step 3: Therefore we need to de-list the customer blacklisted IP in these Three sites.

In addition to these three sites, de-listing procedure of SPAMHAUS site de-listing is also documented.

Note: - If the IPs are getting blacklisted by any other site then we need to follow their delisting procedure.

2.Procedure of de-listing the IPs

Step 1: After the identification of IP blacklisted on specific site from MXTOOLBOX, we need to
login to that particular site (BARRACUDA, SPAMRATS, SPAMHAUS) to remove these
blacklisted IP.

Step 2: Cross verify whether these IP’s blacklisted under that site.

Step 3: If yes then need to follow their delisting/removal procedure.

Step 4: Each site has their own delisting procedure. Examples are given below for few sites such
as BARRACUDA, SPAMRATS, and SPAMHAUS.

3.Example: - For Barracuda blacklist.


Step 1: Open a new browser and type https://www.barracudacentral.org/rbl/removal-request
Enter all the details.

Step 2: If you getting errors click on contact and enter all the details.

4.Example: - For SPAMRATS blacklist.


Step 1: Open a new browser and type http://www.spamrats.com/

Step 2: Enter IP address and characters and click on Remove option.

Step 3: If it does not work then go to the contact and request them for removal.

5.Example: - For SPAMHAUS Listing.


Step 1: Open a new browser and type https://www.spamhaus.org/ .

Step 2: Click on blacklist removal center.

Step 3: Enter the IP address as shown in below image.

Step 4: Click on highlighted PBL number.

Step 5: Click on highlighted area.

Step 6: Select checkbox and click on Remove IP Address.

Step 7: Fill all the required information and submit.

6.Best practice and Precautions


Periodically check your IP address on recommended blacklist maintaining sites (NGOs). Such as
Spamhaus, Spamcop, Barracuda, MXToolbox because the lists maintained by these companies are
used by email providers and major businesses around the world, you want to make sure your IP isn’t
on them, or your email delivery will suffer greatly.

Make sure you have a valid PTR record that matches your outbound public IP to your mail server name or
fully qualified domain name or FQDN (mail.example.com). A PTR record allows receiving servers to perform a
reverse DNS lookup on the connecting IP address to verify that the server name is actually associated with the IP
address from where the connection was initiated.

Sending emails over port 25 is not really secure and because this is the default port, so it been extensively
used by the spammers too. Recommended practice should be use secure SMTP port 465/587 Instead of using
SMTP port 25.
