They may have used the random sampling method. this is done by placing
quadrants in random areas of the field and then counting the number of plants in the
quadrant per 1m^2. once this done a couple times the average number of plants is
calculated per m^2. Then the average is multiplied by the area of the grassy field.
1. they would have used the random sampling method to get a better average of
plants around the field.
2. they can use the line transect method to get a better average if the landscape of
the field change as you go down.

Method:
Harvest the plant material you want to measure. Cut the
entire plant or just a part of it depending on your needs. Be sure to cut
it at the base of the stem to prevent damage to the plant.
Use paper towels or newspaper to blot excess water from the plant
material. Weigh the fresh plant material on a scale and record the
weight. Place the plant material in an oven at around 70-80°C and
leave it to dry for a few hours. The exact drying time will depend on
the type and size of the plant material.
After the plant material is completely dry, remove it from the oven and
let it cool to room temperature.
Materials: Weigh the dry plant material on the same scale as before and record
the weight.
Fresh plant material Subtract the weight of the fresh plant material from the weight of the
dry plant material to obtain the dry mass of the plant.

Note that it's important to make sure the plant material is completely dry before weighing it
to get an accurate measure of the dry mass. The drying temperature should also be
carefully controlled to avoid damaging the plant material.
nitrogen
Legumes have a unique ability to form a symbiotic relationship with
nitrogen-fixing bacteria, known as rhizobia, which reside in specialized
structures called nodules on their roots. These bacteria are able to
convert atmospheric nitrogen into a form that can be used by the plant
for growth, through a process called nitrogen fixation.
This process of nitrogen fixation not only provides the plant with the
nitrogen it needs to grow, but it also enriches the soil with nitrogen,
which can be used by other plants in the ecosystem
