GUIDELINES and CRITERIA FOR FOLK DANCE CONTEST

GUIDELINES:
1. All participants must be registered girl and boy scouts.
2. Each dance group must be composed of not less than 3 pairs but not more than 7 pairs.
3. Each dance troupe is given 5-10 minutes to perform. Entrance and exit are part of the time allotted for
the performers.
4. Each group must perform folk dances not dance dramas. No repetition of Folk Dances once confirmed.
Attached are the lists of folk dances to be performed.
5. All dances must adhere to the dance literature and notation of the folk dance.
6. Dance troupe with less or more than the specified number of participants are
still be given the opportunity to perform as contestants. However, a deduction of 2 points
from their total score shall be made.
7. Deadline for the registration of participants must be done last week of November 2023 using the
attached “Handog Sa Pasko 2023 Confirmation Slip”. Entries registered on the day of the event will
not be accepted and will not have the chance to perform.
8. Contestants must stay in the specified areas intended for them.
9. Drawing lots for the performance sequence will be done at the venue.
10. Dance teachers, coordinators and choreographers must be conversant with the guidelines and criteria
to avoid conflict and misunderstanding.
11. All the contestants must be in the venue 15 minutes before the start of the contest.
12. Tapes/CDs must be ready and be submitted to the sound system operator before the start of the
contest. Coaches and Trainers are enjoined to prepare extra tapes/CDs to avoid delay of performances.
A deduction of another 2 points from the total score of the troupe will be reflected if interruption will
occur during the performances.
13. The decision of the board of judges is final and irrevocable.
14. Set guidelines must be strictly observed and followed.

CRITERIA:
1. Authenticity - 15%
(This includes close adherence to the notation of the dance)
2. Performance - 25%
(This includes grace, precision, coordination, rhythm)
3. Costume - 25%
(This will be primarily based on the propriety of the costume as prescribed in the dance
literature. Consideration will be given to color combination of the costume, accessories
used, including footwear.)
4. Staging - 20%
(This includes the floor patterns observed in the dance routine, smooth transition from one
formation to another, stage balance, deportment)
5. Audience Appeal - 15%
(This will include the over-all appeal of the performance and the rapport established by the
performer with the audience.)
