Ⅰ. Course Overview
1. Course Description

This course is an introduction to the international legal rules, principles and institutions
that are designed to regulate international trade, primarily focusing on the General
Agreement on Tariffs and Trade (GATT) and the Agreement Establishing the World Trade
Organization and its annexes (WTO Agreements).

Students shall independently read course materials and make own study materials such as an outline.

4. Course Objectives

The course aims to help students understand and learn the World Trade Organization
(WTO); the principal international trade agreements; and how the rules, principles and
institutions of international trade impact on domestic legal, political and social
arrangements.

Ⅲ. Course Policies
Students are expected to attend class and to complete all assignments on time,
upholding academic honesty.
A student is responsible for requesting an excused absence in writing, providing
satisfactory evidence to the instructor, in advance. All absences shall be treated as
unexcused until satisfactory evidence is provided to substantiate legitimate reasons for
absence. An excused absence does NOT relieve a student from responsibilities for missed
class sessions and examinations, and ONLY applies to the mandatory attendance
requirement.
Please be advised that according to Article 40 of the University Academic Regulations
(http://www.ewha.ac.kr/ewha/intro/rules.do?mode=view-rule&srRuleCd1=994&srRuleCd2=1009)
a student who has been absent for any reason greater than or equal to 1/3 of classes is
dropped from the course with a grade of “F.” Three late appearances will be counted as
one absence.
There will be two offline, closed-book exams that cover lectures and required readings:
mid-term exam on Apr. 19 (Fri) at 12:30 PM and final exam on June 14 (Fri) at 12:30 PM.
There will be NO makeup exams.
