I, Gurpreet Singh son of Rajinder Singh am resident of village Salwara, District Hoshiarpur,
Punjab, India. I am requesting for political asylum in United States. I left my country due to fear
of life. The members of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), the ruling party in India as central
government and many other states beat me and threatened to kill me. I am a worker of Shiiomani
Akali Dal Mann also known as Shiromani Akali Dal Amritsar (SADA). BJP wanted me to leave
my party and join them.
My father was affiliated with Akali Dal Mann party. He used to work for the party by
posting posters, attending party functions and serving in these functions. My brother, Manpreet
Singh also used to accompany him in the party events and other activities whenever he got a
chance. I also went with my father few times when I was young. My father and brother were
also harassed and beaten by BJP. My father is missing and his whereabouts are unknown and
my brother had to leave the country. He is currently in USA and his asylum application is
pending. As my family always supported SADA and it is good party that work for the welfare of
common man and poor people, I also continued my support after my father went missing and my
brother left the country. But I never participated actively in party activities. When BJP passed
three anti farmer bills for farmers, SADA was the only party that took stand in the support of
farmers. Being a farmer also joined the farmer’s movement and seeing the support of Mann
party for the farmers, I was very impressed.
In the protest ground, I heard the parly leaders. I heard there the members of the party
were preaching policies and programs of the party. They told the people that how Akali Dal
Marm party is fighting for the rights of the people, helping the poor by arranging marriages of
poor girls; arrange medical camps, blood donation camps, drug awareness camps and doing
many other things for the welfare of the people. I decided to join the party. Soon after the
protest was over, Mann party organized a blood donation camp in my village on January 14,

2022. I also went at the camp to donate blood. I joined the party same day as a worker. After that

the party. The people of BJP noticed my activities and did not like it. They started
threatening me. They told me to leave Mann party and join them, and they offered to give me
financial help for that. But I refused to join them because I do not like BJP. BJP commit
atrocities on the people and force people to join them so that it can be strongest party and rule
forever in India. They are crushing the minorities in India.
On June 3 0, 20202, my party organized a function of mass marriages of the poor girls. I
went to the function to help in the arrangements. I helped in the preparation of food, sitting
arrangements, serving people and washing dishes. The function went very well and people were
very happy. After the function, when I was coming back on my motorcycle, a white car
followed me. I saw BJP flag on the car. I got little scared as I knew what BJP people did to my
father and brother and both were away from us. I tried to escape but they caught me. The car hit
me from the back and I fell on the ground. Four BJP men came out of the car and started hitting
me with kicks and sticks. While they were hitting me, they said that we warned you on the
phone to leave SADA and join BJP. We also offered you make money by joining BJP but you
people do not understand the value of money and power. You will always live in poverty. I was
crying in pain. One of them had a sword. He attempted to hit with the sword on my face and I
put my both arms on my face. The sword hit my left wrist and my wrist started bleeding. It was
bleeding profusely and I became light headed. I was dizzy. One of them said, let’s go as this kid
will die from bleeding itself. They left assuming that I will die of the injuries and bleeding.
Luckily a farmer came on a scooter from his farms and seeing me bleeding he tied my wrist
tightly with the cloth and took me to the doctor on his scooter. He informed my mother also.
The doctor gave me IV fluids, injection and put stiches on my wrist. I was in too much pain
from the beating and feeling very weak. I had bruises all over the body.
Next day, I went to the police station with my mother and uncle to report this attack by

the BJP people. I informed the police inspector about the whole incident. The inspector said that

better you join the BJP and follow their instructions. I told him that I do not want to join
BJP and just want to file the complaint. I requested him again to write my complaint. The
officer got furious and said that do want to be missing like your father or want to stay in jail all
your life under some drug smuggling charges. Other two police constables pushed us out of the
police station and warned us not to come back. They officer threatened my mother that if you do
not want to lose your son, make sure I never see your son again the police station. We left from
there without getting any help from police.
After this incident, it took some time for me to recover physically and emotionally. But
this incident made me more determined to work for my party and help people and bring the
change so that everyone can get justice in the society. I started working more actively for the
party and encouraging more people to join SADA and support SADA.
On January 13, 2022, on the occasion of Maghi, my party held a rally in Hoshiarpur. I
participated actively in the arrangements of the rally. Before the rally, I distributed fliers, post
posters and told people verbally about the rally and encouraged people to join the rally. The rally
was very successful. I was coming back from the rally on my motorcycle when suddenly a jeep
stopped in front of me. The jeep had a symbol of BJP party (Lotus). Five people stepped out of
the jeep. As soon as they stepped out, they started beating me. They were also telling that if
Sikhs wants to live in this country, they have to join BJP. You either join BJP or no one will be
able to find you like your father. They beat me mercilessly with kicks, punches, baseball bat and
pushed me to the ground. I was screaming for help. They tied my hands and feet and put a tape
on my mouth. They put my motorcycle on fire and pushed me into their vehicle. They took me
to an unknown place, beat me until half dead, and threw me on the track of train to die. While
they were doing so, they were saying that now you will meet your father in hell. I have a feeling
that they killed my father. Luckily, someone saw me and removed me from the track. He untied
me and removed tape from my mouth. He informed my mother on the phone. My mother came
with my uncle and took me to the doctor. I got internal injuries and was in severe pain. I was
very depressed and scared to go out of home.

Question

After this incident, I got many thi'eatening phone calls. My family got scared for me and
my maternal uncle contacted a travel agent to make the arrangements for me travel outside the
country. The travel agent made the arrangements. I traveled via different countries before I
crossed the border and reached United States.
It is submitted please accept my application so that I can save my life. I am sure that BJP
people will kill me if I am forced to go back to India. The police will not protect me. Rather the
police are helping them because the BJP is a ruling party in India and police is working under
them.

My statement was read back to me in my native language Punjabi and it is true and correct and
nothing is concealed therein.
