I. LESSON TITLE IMPACT OF HUMAN ACTIVITIES IN AN ECOSYSTEM
II. MOST ESSENTIAL LEARNING
Suggest ways to minimize human impact on the environment
COMPETENCIES (MELCs)
III. CONTENT/CORE CONTENT LIVING THINGS AND THEIR ENVIRONMENT
IV. LEARNING PHASES AND LEARNING ACTIVITIES
I. Introduction (Time Frame: _DAY 1_______)

Humans impact the physical environment in many ways: overpopulation, pollution, burning fossil fuels, and deforestation.
Changes like these have triggered climate change, soil erosion, poor air quality, and undrinkable water. These negative
impacts can affect human behavior and can prompt mass migrations or battles over clean water.

LEARNING TASK # 1 ECOrigin

Based on your understanding of the origin of the words on the text box, give or create your definition of the words given on
the table. Write your answers on the answer sheets prescribed by your teacher.

E. Engagement (Time Frame: __DAY 2_______)
Human impacts on Ecosystems
Key terms
Term Meaning
Biodiversity The variety of organisms in an ecosystem
Renewable resources Resources that are replaced as quickly as they are used
Nonrenewable resources Resources that are limited in supply because they are used faster than can be replaced.
Conservation The study of the loss of Earth's biodiversity and the ways this loss can be prevented
Extinction Process during which all members of a group of organisms die out.
Endangered species Species that has been identified as likely to become extinct.
Biodiversity hotspot A biogeographic region that contains high biodiversity and is also threatened with destruction
Climate change Measurable long-term changes in Earth's climate.

LEARNING TASK #3 UNSCRAMBLE ME

A. Assimilation (Time Frame: _DAY 3________)

It is imperative that we support the earth that we live on, but no matter what, the earth will live on. Human impacts
the natural habitat in so many ways and we need to be aware of our personal environmental input.
Whether we live with it or not solely depends on the decisions and actions we make next. Mother nature is an unrelenting,
unforgiving force, so it is probably best if we treat her well, and maybe, just maybe we can make up for the damage that has
already been dealt with.
The best time to act, was yesterday, the best we can do is today, but if we wait for tomorrow, it may just be too
late. Society needs to help itself in order to survive.

Learning Tasks # 4. POSITIVE or NEGATIVE?

Direction: Identify the following activity as a positive or negative act to the environment.

______________1. Riding a bicycle instead of a car.
