Solution Weight of dialysis Weight of dialysis Percent Change

(final-initial/initial x 100)
bag before (g) bag after (g)
A 17.59 g 17.66 g 0.07 g
B 8.75 g 10.40 g 1.65 g
C 11.24 g 10.62 g 0.62 g
D 10.71 g 10.30 g 0.41 g
E 18.05 g 15.60 g 2.45 g

Graph the Percent Volume of Change of your dialysis bags over the 24-hour period. (Be sure to
correctly label your graph)

Analysis Questions:

1. Which dialysis tubes had little or no change in mass after the 24-hour
period?
Answer: The dialysis tubes had little or no changes in mass after the 24-
hour period were tubes A, C & D
2. Why was pure water used as the control group?
Answer: Pure water was used as the control group because it was
comparable to the experimental group.
3. Why didn’t the mass of dialysis tubes “A” and “D” change much over the 24-
hour time frame?
Answer: The mass of dialysis tubes “A” and “D” didn’t change much over
the 24-hour time frame because the concentration were the same inside &
outside the dialysis tube.
4. Describe how a cell responds to its external environment?
Answer: If the concentration of solid in the outside area of the cell is
higher than that of the inner environment, the water moves out of the cell.
