2. Application

and buses. The interior tm materials covered by these specifications include all materials and fabrics,
to be found in the occupant compartment and all materials and fabrics adjoining this space. The
purpose of this Specification is the evaluation of a fire load in order to prevent a fire from developing or
in order to ensure that a fire which has broken out is spread only very slowly, whereby the fire can be
started by a multitude of causes such as carelessness in handling fire (matches, cigarettes).
BASIC AND OTHER MATERIALS.
This Spectication applies to all materials used in the occupant compartment (such as thermoplastics,
thermosetting plastics, elastomers) in the form of fiber materials, coatings, adhesives. foams,
compressed materials, impregnations, panels, leather, deep-drawn and injection molded components
and similar materials and their combinations. in case of doubt, the responsible development department
shall be consulted, The basic and other materials shall comply with the requirements of the relevant
product version of this OBL without detriment to other stipulated characteristics (e.g. those laid down in
a material DBL)
4, REQUIREMENTS
Voluntary obligations and statutory regulations for certain countries exist which coincide to a large
degree,
Itis a mandatory requirement for the initial sampling of interior trim materials for buses that the tests in
accordance with 95/28/EC are carried out by a laboratory accredited by the Kraffahrt Bundes Amt (KBA
+ Federal German Office for Motor Vehicles) or by a corresponding national authority for these tests.
4.1 Flammability in accordance with US Standard FMVSS 302, Canadian Standard CMVSS 302 and
French Standard UTAC No. ST 18-502 for passenger cars, multipurpose passenger vehicles,
trucks and buses
The following components shall comply with the criteria listed under point §.1 of this DBL:
‘Seat cushions, seat backs, seat belts, nead lining, convertible tops. arm rests, all trim panels including
door, front, rear and side panels, compartment shelves, head restraints, floor coverings, sun visors,
curtains, shades, whee! housing covers, mattress covers, and any other interior materials, including
padding and crash-deployed elements that are designed to absorb energy on contact by occupants in
the event of a crash. Any portion of a single or composite material which is within 12,7 mm of the
‘occupant compartment air space. Any material that does not adhere to other material(s) at every point
of contact shall meet the requirements (Section §. 1.) when tested separately. Any material that adheres
to other material(s) at every point of contact shall meet the requirements (Section 5.1.) when tested as a
composite with the other materials).

‘mm/min. In the interests of a uniform ruling, stricter criteria shall be applied as indicated under Para 5.1
of this DBL (max. 100 mm/min) for vehicles falling under the scope of OBL 5307.

each material shall be subjected to a test

the occupant compartment for parts distributed over the vehicle and not connected to an
