Located close to the sea in the past and Singapore
river at the present, the 141 Arclab has close connections to water and carries a lot of memories of it. Our design intends to create a meandering journey like a river flowing through the shophouse from outside to the inside, the present to the past, with modulars created with glass blocks and metal frames and plates. Four nodes are created along the journey with different scenarios and views, for creating a narrative about memories and intriguing people to explore the beauty of the house from different angles. Stacked glass boxes are used to create benches at the node 1, 3 and 4, in a curvy shape and with lights inside. Node 2 is created with boxes hanging. Each node is designed with memories embedded. The dotted lines on the ground connect the four nodes, indicating this invisible ‘river’.
