BASIC RULES AND REGULATIONS FOR THE

Alay Dance Troupe

_____________________________________________________________________________________
The Dance Team is a very big commitment, every member needs to be just as committed as the next,
therefore rules/guidelines have to be set and followed.
POLICIES

 Please come to practices in proper dance attire. Dress code will enforced.
 All hair must be pulled back in either a pony tail or bun and should be neatly groomed for
practices and all performances.
 Use the restroom before practice.
 No jewelry allowed as it can be harmful to the others
 Water only allowed in dance area; water breaks will be given by the dance master.
 Please inform dance master of any previous dance injuries and take practice at own risk.
 Visible tattoos and body art will not be permitted.
 The Alay Dance Troupe is not responsible for lost or stolen valuables.
 Listen while the dance master is talking.
 Always arrive on time.
 You are allowed only (3) unexcused absences from practice. The third will result in a 25%
deduction from the scholarship. You will be allowed 1 “free pass”, you can use anytime during
the year.
 You are expected to be at practice even if you are “not feeling well”, unless you have a doctor
excuse. Observing is very important!!
 If you miss a practice immediately prior to a performance, you will not perform and be required
to “dress out” and support the team. Coach will decide if allowed to perform because of missed
practice.
 Punctuality is a must!! Tardies will not be tolerated. Members arriving late will be counted as
tardy, (3) tardies result in one absence. Punctual… meaning, shoes on, on the floor stretching at
scheduled time of practice (not running in the door at the last minute.)
 If you miss a practice, you are required to learn the material before the next practice. If the
material is not learned, you will not be able to perform. Every practice provides new learning and
only sets the team back if one-member misses.
 You are expected to give 110% during practice, as well as a game. No “marking” the routine
unless told to. If you are unable to meet this requirement, you will be replaced.
 You are expected to have a positive attitude at all times. If you are unable to meet this
requirement, you will be replaced. Hateful attitudes and actions will not be tolerated at any time.
 Practices will include warm-ups, technique, dance and conditioning. All are important aspects of
the dance team and will be required for all members of the squad.
 Excessive socialization (as determined by the coach) during practice will result in some form of
conditioning. Talking while someone else is speaking will result in the entire team to run laps.
 No jewelry is to be worn at any time during any dance team event (practices, games, competitions
or special appearances, unless specified by coach)
 Gum chewing will not be allowed during any dance team event or practice. Will result in extra
conditioning if caught chewing gum.
 You are responsible for your own dance uniforms, shoes, bags, poms etc. If you lose an item you
will be responsible for replacing it.
 Anything that has been purchased during season, is not to be worn at any time other than times
specified by coach. (Jackets, t-shirts, shoes etc.) These are exclusive to games, practices and
special events. Dance shoes are NOT to be worn outside! Bring shoes to games and practices in
bag and change into them when you get there.
 The Coaches decisions are FINAL.
 No cell phone use at practice. Cell phones will be OFF during practice time. No texting or calling
during breaks.
 You are expected to have a POSITIVE attitude at all times. Whether you are tired, sore, or any
other reasons, it is not acceptable to show a bad attitude. If you are unable to meet this
requirement, YOU WILL BE REPLACED!! I tolerate NO DRAMA!!
 Always!! Always!! BE RESPECTFUL TO EACH OTHER!! If you are unable to meet this
requirement, YOU WILL BE REPLACED!!

Membership Requirements:

 All members are required to attend all practices & competitions.

 All members are expected to refrain from drugs & alcohol; there is a zero tolerance policy. If a
dancer is caught doing drugs or alcohol, they will be removed from the team.

General Expectations:

 Dancers must maintain a positive and encouraging attitude at all practices and events. Proper
appearance is required at all times, appropriate to the occasion.
 No foul language or inappropriate gestures will be used at any time by any member of the dance

from the team.

All cell phones must be put on silent, or turned off, and must be kept in dancers bags during
practice. Water and bathroom breaks are not cell phone breaks.

Practices:

 Dancers will wear the appropriate practice attire to each and every practice. All black is the best
attire as it makes it easier for the coaches to see mistakes and help correct. Pajama pants and
baggy clothing is NOT appropriate attire.
 Hair must be pulled up and away from the face and should remain secure for the entire practice.
Extra warm up clothing should be removed after the stretch and warm up period of practice.
 No large jewelry, body piercings, or excessively long artificial nails is allowed.
 No gum chewing or cell phone use is allowed.
 No horsing around will be tolerated during practices. Focus is necessary to get things done in a
timely manner.
 No friends are allowed to come watch practice as we find this as a distraction. Parents are
encouraged to come watch their dancer in practice. Siblings are welcomed as long as it does not
become a distraction.
 A positive and encouraging attitude is expected of all dancers at all practices. Questions,
comments, and general discussion should be kept to a minimum. Any questions or concerns
should be discussed either before or after practice.

Competition:

 Dancers must come prepared with all pieces to uniforms, makeup, hair pieces, etc.
 All dancers will be required to help clean up our designated room at all competitions before they
are released to leave.
 Dancers will not be released to leave until a coach sees a parent or guardian.
