Psychological traits
These three attributes—bravery,
ambition, and self-doubt—struggle
for mastery of Macbeth throughout
the play. Shakespeare uses Macbeth
to show the terrible effects that
ambition and guilt can have on a man
who lacks strength of character.

considered as Psychological tragedy.
Shakespeare introduces many soliloquies
to expose the conflict of mind. It is
conflict between reality and hope good
and evil as well as duty and ambition. In a
Psychological tragedy, the hero fights
against himself. He has no struggle with
his destiny.

Good and bad actions


Macbeth begins as a 'good' man, a
very good man – loyal, responsible
and honourable. During the course of
the action he becomes evil,
influenced by the witches who are
agents of the power of evil. He is led
on by their suggestion that he is
destined to become king.
