Make A DNA Model DNA is shaped like a twisted ladder, also called a Double Helix. In this lab you will use tape, paper and highlighters to make a model of DNA. Maer 4 highlighters in different colors white paper Colored Tape Ruler Pencil & scissors Pate Paring Ruler Cytosine pairs with Guanine Adenine pairs with Thymine Procedure 1. With a pencil and ruler, mark the paper into 30 small strips, about 1 cm wide by 3. cm long, These will represent the nitrogen bases in DNA and will be the rungs on the ladder. 2. Decide which colors will pair together. The colors will represent the different types of bases. For example, green is guanine, blue is cytosine, yellow is thymine, and red is adenine. 3. Fold each strip in half, then unfold. Color your strips according to the base pairing rule and the colors you chose in step 2. Label them with the appropriate name. 4, Lay out two strips of tape on a desk about 70cm long with the sticky sides face up. Position the two pieces about 2 cm apart and then tape the ends down so they dont move. 5, Press the colored strips of paper along the two lengths of tape in any order leaving a1 cm gap in between each one. Make sure the paper doesn't completely cover the tape. 6.Once all your bases are in place, carefully fold one of the long pieces of tape in half lengthwise to seal the bases on that side in place. Repeat on the other side. 7.Gently twist your DNA strand to make it look like a twisted ladder. ©2024 MeliBCreative
