I. Introduction.
An information system (IS) is a set of components that work together to collect,
store, process, and distribute information. Information systems support various
activities and functions in organizations, such as operations, management, decision
making, communication, and coordination. Information systems can also provide
competitive advantages, create new products and services, and enhance customer
satisfaction.

The benefits of information systems:

Modern technology can significantly boost your company's performance and

productivity. Information systems are no exception. Organizations worldwide rely on
them to research and develop new ways to generate revenue, engage customers and
streamline time-consuming tasks.
With an information system, businesses can save time and money while making
smarter decisions. A company's internal departments, such as marketing and sales,
can communicate better and share information more easily.
Since this technology is automated and uses complex algorithms, it reduces human
error. Furthermore, employees can focus on the core aspects of a business rather than
spending hours collecting data, filling out paperwork and doing manual analysis.
Thanks to modern information systems, team members can access massive amounts
of data from one platform. For example, they can gather and process information from
different sources, such as vendors, customers, warehouses and sales agents, with a
few mouse clicks.

II. The role of information systems.

Information systems are becoming increasingly important as the world becomes

more digital. Devices are not widely used, there are more and more websites with
extensive information systems, online shopping is on the rise, etc.

Information systems play a huge role in today's modern world. The role of
information systems can be understood from different perspectives: technical,
organizational, social and managements:

For technical, Information systems include hardware, software, data, networks and
procedures. These elements allow input, output, storage, processing and transmission
of data and information. The technical role of information systems is to facilitate the
effective use of information technology in organizations. Information systems and
technology are important tools to achieve greater efficiency and productivity.
ex: Winmart's retail linkage system connects suppliers with stores for an
outstanding replenishment system.
Information systems in technology can be applied to different domains and
functions, such as business, education, health care, government, entertainment, and
more. Some examples of information systems in technology are:

2
Expert systems: These are artificial intelligence systems that simulate human
problem-solving and decision-making. They use knowledge from experts to provide
solutions or advice for specific domains or tasks. For example, expert systems can
help diagnose diseases, identify malware, or recommend products
Office automation systems: These are systems that combine computer and
communication technology with human resources to automate and improve office
procedures. They can help with tasks such as word processing, email, scheduling, data
entry, accounting, and more. For example, office automation systems can send
automated email updates, generate reports, or create invoices
Process control systems: These are systems that use sensors and actuators to
monitor and control physical processes or machines. They can help with tasks such as
manufacturing, quality control, safety, or energy management. For example, process
control systems can regulate the temperature, pressure, or speed of a production line
or a vehicle
Information systems in technology can also have various impacts on individuals,
organizations, and society. They can provide benefits such as increased efficiency,
productivity, quality, innovation, communication, collaboration, learning,
empowerment, and well-being. They can also pose challenges such as ethical, legal,
social, environmental, and security issues

For Organization, Information systems support an organization's business processes

and strategies. Business processes are activities that create value for customers and
stakeholders. Business strategies are the plans and actions that guide an organization's
direction and goals. The organizational role of information systems is to improve the
performance, productivity, quality and innovation of business processes and strategies.
Thereby improving operational efficiency to achieve higher profits.
Information systems and technology are also the main support tools for products,
services, and business models. Example, Ipod, Itunes and Apple's Iphone in new
product launch campaigns.
In a large organization, harmonizing information is important, allowing for
consistent reporting across the organization.
Information systems can also be used to provide competitive advantage by
providing organizations access to information and insights that their competitors may
not have.
It can be said that, to survive in today's era, information technology is an essential
business need for an organization.

For Managements, is a topic that covers how organizations use information

technology to collect, manage, analyze, and distribute information for various
purposes, such as operations, management, decision making, communication, and
coordination. Information systems can also provide competitive advantages, create
new products and services, and enhance customer satisfaction
There are different types of information systems that serve different functions and
roles in management, such as:
Management information systems (MIS): These are systems that provide
managers with the necessary information to make decisions about an organization’s

3
operations. The MIS gathers data from various sources and processes it to provide
information tailored to the managers’ and their staff’s needs
Decision support systems (DSS): These are systems that help managers make
complex and non-routine decisions. They use analytical models, data mining, and
interactive interfaces to provide managers with relevant information and alternatives
Executive information systems (EIS): These are systems that provide senior
executives with easy access to internal and external information that is relevant to
their strategic goals. They use dashboards, graphs, and charts to present information
in a concise and visual way
Information systems in management can also have various impacts on
organizations and society. They can improve the efficiency, productivity, quality,
innovation, communication, collaboration, learning, empowerment, and well-being of
the people involved. They can also pose challenges such as ethical, legal, social,
environmental, and security issues.

For Social, information systems affect people and society that are involved or
affected by organizations. People include users, managers, developers, and customers
of information systems. Society includes the ethical, legal, cultural, environmental,
and political aspects of information systems. The societal role of information systems
is to enhance communication, collaboration, learning, empowerment and well-being
of people and society. Thanks to information systems, people have more views about
the world around them, thereby improving human understanding and capacity.

III. Conclusion.
The information system plays a vital role in organizations by enabling the effective
use of information technology, supporting the business processes and strategies, and
affecting the people and society. Information system can help organizations achieve
their goals and objectives in a dynamic and competitive environment
