Preparing the Site
Prepare the site This chapter provides you with 6 key guidelines to help
you prepare the site for proper installation of the V24/
Unpack and inspect the monitor V26.
Install the monitor Before you install your monitor, you want to insure that
the site has all the requirements needed before installa-
Configure the monitor tion. You will insure the monitor will operate at opti-
mum performance by using these guidelines. You will
insure that the monitor is easy to view, operate and
maintain. Safety precautions, including proper ground-
ing and power requirements for the monitor are also
described in this section.
Temperature Range:
Operating:
Model V24E/V26E and V24C/V26C
+5 to 40°C (41 to 104°F)
Model V24CT/V26CT
+5 to 35°C (41 to 95°F)
Storage: -15 to 40° C
(5 to 104°F)
Humidity Range:
Operating:
Model V24E/V26E and V24C/V26C
95% RH max @ 40°C (104°F)
(Non-condensing)
The second step requires that you position the monitor so that the
display is clearly visible and the controls are easy to reach.
80°(20°)
0° `
80°(35°)
80°(50°) 0° 80°(50°)
The third step involves insuring that there is a power source available
within 2 meters (6.6 feet) of the monitor.
The V24 and V26 Patient Monitors may be operated on AC line voltage
ranges of 90 to 250 Vac, 48 to 66 Hz, nominal. The voltage is selected
automatically by the switched mode power supply. The monitor’s
power cord is 2 meters (6.6 Feet) in length and must be used with the
monitor.
The V24CT/V26CT may be operated from one or two lead acid batteries
or from an AC line voltage. When the unit operates from the AC line
voltage and batteries are installed, the batteries are charged. The unit
can be turned off and connected to AC line power to charge the
batteries.
The fourth step requires you to insure that the monitor will be properly
grounded.
Warning
The monitor is only compatible with the Philips patient care system
network. The monitor’s connection to the Philips patient care system
network requires an available branch and receptacle. A Philips
monitoring network (SDN) cable must also be ordered. If the site needs
to be prepared for a network installation; namely, installation of a
System Communications Controller (SCC), branch cables, connectors,
and switch wall boxes, refer to the following documentation for
installation instructions:
Use the following checklist to insure your site meets all the
requirements to properly install and operate the V24/V26

Before using the V24CT/V26CT for the first time, you must fully charge
the batteries. Since the batteries may have been on shelf for an
extended period, charging exercises the batteries and also prevents
overdischarging the batteries. To charge the batteries, install the
batteries.and connect the AC power cord to the M1205A and plug it
into an AC power source. DO NOT turn the unit on. Verify that the AC
Power LED is on and the display is blank. The Battery Charging and
Battery Charged LEDs should behave as follows during the charging
routine:

When power is applied to the monitor (power switch on) the backlit
LCD display will light up and the standard monitoring mode display
will appear. In addition, alarm severity indicator lights, alarm suspend
indicator lights and confirm key and arrow keys will light for several
seconds indicating that they operate properly. The loudspeakers will
also sound for a few seconds indicating that they operate properly.

3. Tap the active (bright) cross sign target. Each target will in turn
become active. Repeat the selection of each active target until all
5 targets have been selected. Calibration will now be carried out
internally.
There are four Configuration Sets which are used to store information
on two levels. The first level contains data about the patient category
(Neonate, Pediatric, or Adult), and hospital environment type
(ICU,OR), collectively known as Global Switches. The second level
contains information about the measured parameters, for example, the
alarm limits for various parameter values.
Note—If you switch to the Pedi Patient Category the default settings
will automatically include the Module Setup factory default settings
from the previous Configuration Set. That is, Pedi may have Adult
or Neo Module Setup default settings based on the Configuration Set
that was previously used.

Module Setup settings allow you to change and store all the parameter
settings. Examples include the number of active ECG channels, initial

the screen.

4. Press arrow keys to change the site time to the value you want.
Changing the Alarms settings allows you to determine how alarms will
respond to a variety of patient conditions. The monitor is
preconfigured to make an audible tone and display a blinking numeric
whenever patient conditions warrant an alarm. Visual and audible
alarms may be latched or unlatched.
For patient safety, the monitor has pre-configured alarm settings for
the level of alarm volume and how the patient monitor will operate if
the user selects Alarm Suspend. There are conditions where a user
for a care unit may suspend alarms to prevent unwanted alarms. When
a bedside-generated alarm sounds, the factory defaults it to a high
volume. The default for the volume of the prompt tone is low when a
user selects the alarm suspend key on the monitor.

1. Complete the following worksheet with the assistance of the Nurse Manager
responsible for the critical care unit in which the monitor(s) will be installed. See
example below.
2. Record settings that differ from the factory defaults in the space titled “User
Values”. The “Choices” column lists available settings in the table below and give a
copy of this configuration checklist to the Nurse Manager, Philips Implementation
Planning Specialist, Philips Clinical Application Specialist, and file with the
Biomedical Engineering Department.
Note—You may want to use the CPC Programming Tool to copy configurations between monitors if multiple
units need to be configured using the same configuration values. Refer to the V24/V26 Service Guide for details.

Patient Safety
If Site Timer Off is set to Not Allowed the automatic Heat Switchoff will be disabled. The transducer will
therefore heat indefinitely on the patient and can cause skin irritation, reddening, blistering or pressure
necrosis, particularly on neonates and on patients with impaired perfusion and varying or immature skin
morphology.
For patient safety reasons, ensure that the Site Timer Off is configured in accordance with the standard
medical procedures of the hospital.
