FAQ: BASIC WORKBOOK

When do I have to submit the Basic Workbook?

• The Basic Workbook can be submitted anytime.

Are there any formal requirements for the Basic Workbook?

• Yes, there are formal requirements for the Basic Workbook. These are written in the Guidelines for Basic
Workbook.

Will I get a grade for the Basic Workbook?

• No, it will only be distinguished by pass/fail. As soon as you have reached at least 50% of the points to be
awarded, you have passed the Basic Workbook.

How do I submit the Basic Workbook?

• Once you have completed all tasks, create one single PDF file. Make sure to name the file as follows (see
Instructions for submitting work to myCampus Turnitin): YYYYMMDD_surname_name_matriculation
number_course code; e.g., 20220314_Doe_John_12345678_DLBCSIAW01. Submit your PDF file to
Turnitin via the link of the current month. The links will be activated successively. So, if only the next two
months are visible in Turnitin, this is not meant to be a deadline. The other months are just not yet
unlocked. Once uploaded to Turnitin, a file cannot be modified.

Who do I contact if I fail to upload the Basic Workbook to Turnitin?

• If there are problems with the upload itself (i.e. submission to Turnitin), please contact the Examination
Office (exams-office@iu.org).
• If you have not titled the Basic Workbook correctly, you do not need to contact the Examination Office.
It may, however, result in a deduction of points.

When will the results be announced?

• The grading period starts at the beginning of the month following the end of the submission period
and lasts six weeks. In total, it can take up to 10 weeks to receive your Basic Workbook grade
(depending on how early into the submission period you submitted your Basic Workbook).
Example:
You submit your Basic Workbook on July 2nd.
The grading period starts on August 1st.
Your grade is published on September 13th.
You look at your published grade on September 13th at 23:59.
The Basic Workbook review will be activated at the end of the specified time.

Can I view the rating of the Basic Workbook and comments?
• After the announcement of the results, you can see any comments made by the tutor. For this, click on
the title of your work. Furthermore, you can also select the digital receipt of your submission. To do so,
click on “View Digital Receipt”. The digital receipt is the confirmation of your submission. For this reason,
we recommend you take a screenshot of the digital receipt and save it.

• Comments on the Basic Workbook will be activated as soon as all results of a submission month have
been determined. Therefore, your results may already have been determined, but the comments are not
yet visible. These will be unlocked in the next few days.
• Please note: Comments are available for a period of four weeks after the rating has been published, but
no longer after that.

Who do I contact if I have any questions about the announcement of the results?
• The grading of the Basic Workbook can take up to 10 weeks, as the six-week grading period does not
begin until the end of the submission month (see above). Example: Submission of Basic Workbook: July
2nd | Start of the six-week grading period: August 1st | Announcement of result: September 13th.
• If the result is not visible after the publication deadline, please contact the Examination Office: exams-
office@iu.org

How can I reach my tutor in the course DLBCSIAW01 “Introduction to Academic Work”?
• You can reach them via the Course Feed®.

What should I do if I fail?

• Once the result has been announced, you can upload a second/third attempt.
• For a second attempt/third attempt, please upload the complete document with the addition “second
attempt” or “third attempt” in the file name. Since the Basic Workbook does not have a cover page, the
addition “second attempt” or “third attempt” has to be specified only in the name of the document (e.g.:
20220314_Doe_John_12345678_DLBCSIAW01_SecondAttempt).
• Please note that you must rework the tasks of the Basic Workbook completely! It is not sufficient
to simply correct the errors from the first or second attempt.
• For any questions, sign in (again) in the course feed.
